report of a Franklin's Gull at Oregon Inlet

Just returned from a pelagic trip out of Oregon Inlet today, Sunday Aug 31.
On the boat today was a birder from the state of Washington that mentioned
finding a Franklin's Gull on the new spoil flats just south of the Oregon
Inlet jetty late yesterday afternoon. He saw the bird sitting with a fairly
large group of Laughing Gulls on this newly created sandbar. He seemed
confident in his ID and mentioned how unexpected he was to find this
western gull on the east coast.

In addition to its smaller size (compared to the Laughing Gulls), he also
mentioned it having red legs which would make it an adult according to my
field guide. Several of us checked this area after we got off the boat this
evening to no avail, but the bird could certainly still be in "the area".
Hopefully somebody might give a look tommorrow.

Good birding-
