Hilton Pond 09/01/03

If insects had a sense of foreboding, we suspect they would tremble in their exoskeletons when the Wheel Bug comes to town.

Wheel Bugs are unmistakable in appearance and highly efficient at killing and eating their insect prey. For a photo essay about these six-legged predators, please visit the Web site for Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History and check out "This Week at Hilton Pond" for 1-7 Sep 2003 at http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek030901.html

As always, we include a tally of all birds banded during the week, plus a photo of a just-banded Red-shouldered Hawk that got caught in our hummingbird nets.

Happy Nature Watching!
