Hello, this is a Sept. 11 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird Club.
Highlight on this report include:
ROSEATE SPOONBILLS
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER
LEAST FLYCATCHER
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS
WARBLING VIREO
BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO
At least 3 ROSEATE SPOONBILLS were reported from the twin lakes of Sunset
Beach, NC today 9-11. Two birds were at the west lake and one was at the east
lake during hight tide.
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, and
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were at the Super Sod Farms in Orangeburg, SC on 9-8. These
farms are located on US 301 on both sides of I-26 at Orangeburg. In NC, a
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was at Jockey's Ridge S. P. on 9-7. Check the mud flats
on Roanoke Sound at the park.
Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant , SC has been very good for passerine
migrants. This morning 9-11 a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER,
PROTHONOTORY WARBLER, N. PARULA, BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER,
PRAIRIE WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, AM. REDSTART, and N. WATERTHRUSH
were seen. On 9-10, LEAST FLYCATCHER, WARBLING VIREO and a BLUE-WINGED
WARBLER were highlights . Best birding is around the pump station at Patriot's
Point.
Migrants at Savannah NWR in SC on 9-9 included BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, VEERY,
BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and CAPE MAY WARBLER.
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS were seen 9-6 at River Bend State Park near Hickory,
NC, and 9-7 at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC.
