Re: Where to bird in South Carolina?

Here are a few good spots outside of Aiken County that you might want to
check out. I think most of these are within about two hours' drive of
Augusta.

1. Lake Thurmond, especially at the dam and below the dam
2. Stevens Creek Heritage Preserve near Clarks Hill, SC
3. Congaree National Park near Columbia, SC
4. Savannah National Wildlife Refuge near Savannah, GA
5. Lake Murray, especially Dreher Island State Park
6. Lynches Woods in Newberry, SC
7. Santee NWR near Santee, SC (a bit more than two hours', but worth it)

The GA coast might be a bit more than 2 hours' away, but it is a logical
next step for you as well. Tybee Island can be very good in winter. Farther
afield than this consider a weekend in north Florida. St. Marks NWR near
Tallahassee is wonderful, and there is a lot to see in the Jacksonville area
as well.
