I am currently working on a novel about, if you can believe it, a writer who makes Ocracoke Island her home. She's had many childhood memories of the island and always had this dream of living there, fulltime. Your article on Ocracoke street names is quite interesting and does help me a bit in building this story.

I am an artist and a writer. And I guess I'm trying to write a "good-enough" story that allows me to hide within the main character and fantasize about living there. Hey, who knows -- if I can get this work published and have good sales, I might see my "fantasy" come true! I wonder how many wanna-be writers have given you the same story?

Greetings from the Sunshine state (FL of course). I am currently working on a novel about, if you can believe it, a writer who makes Ocracoke Island her home. She's had many childhood memories of the island and always had this dream of living there, fulltime. Your article on Ocracoke street names is quite interesting and does help me a bit in building this story. The last time I was on Ocracoke was in August 2000 with my three children (then ages 5, 6 and 9 years old). Prior to that, I had a visit in 1989 with my future husband and now "estranged." We had the joy of meeting the late Mr. Teeter (of Teeter's Campground) and his pastor at the AOG church. Before that, I had many-an-excursion to Ocracoke with my parents (I guess from the time I could know where we were going through the late '60's and early '70's). My parents always chose Teeter's Campground for their stay. Mr. Teeter had told me that he was ill, and I later heard that he had passed on. I've printed my maps and a good aerial view of the island, 'done a ton of research and I'm still searching for 'this and that' that could help me with my story. What is it about Ocracoke that draws us there...in some mystical way? I am an artist and a writer. And I guess I'm trying to write a "good-enough" story that allows me to hide within the main character and fantasize about living there.
