The FreeTDS development team proudly announces the long awaited, much anticipated, and richly deserved new version: 0.82. It obsoletes version 0.64, released 22 months ago. Users are implored to run, not walk, to their nearest Internet connection and upgrade as soon as humanly possible. Version 0.82 includes many new features and improvements to existing ones, including: 1. timeout handling 2. encrypted connections 3. fisql (and odbc utilities) 4. autoconf improvements 5. 23,710 lines added or deleted (101,022 total). 6. 85 files added 7. 21 unit tests added At nearly 100,000 lines of code, the FreeTDS project is mature. The jump in version numbers -- from 0.64 to 0.82 -- represents the asymptotic progress toward version 1.0, anticipated in a few years. FreeTDS is a free implementation of Sybase's db-lib, ct-lib, and ODBC libraries. FreeTDS builds and runs on every flavor of unix-like systems we've heard of, as well as Win32 (with or without Cygwin), VMS, and Mac OS X. In addition to C, it works also with Perl and PHP, among others. More information available at http://www.freetds.org.
