Welcome to xrgb! We wrote this program because we couldn't get xcolor to compile on our sun machine, and we wanted to learn how the X-Windows System worked. If you download this software and compile it, please drop us a line to let us know how you like it, along with any suggestions for improvements. Neil Enns Roger Moar ennsnr@BrandonU.CA moar@austin.BrandonU.ca Features: --------- - scrolled list of system colours. - ability to create your own colors, and then find the closest match in the system rgb.txt file. Requirements: ------------- - C++ compiler - Athena Widgets - X-Windows (duh :) At the moment, xrgb works best with monitors that can display 32K+ colors. If you use less than this (256 for example), you will run into problems with not having enough colors available. We are working on a way to get around this, but it probably won't be ready till the next version. Compiling xrgb: --------------- (xrgb is known to successfully compile under Solaris 2.3... we havn't been able to try it on any other operating systems. If you get it compiled, please mail us with what you had to change so we can incorporate the changes into future versions of this program) An Imakefile is provided for your compiling convenience. If you have xmkmf installed, use the following commands to compile xrgb: xmkmf make Once xrgb is compiled successfully, you should move the XRgb resource file to your applications resource directory. Another option is to use xrdb to load the xrgb resource file. To do this, type: xrdb XRgb If you have problems compiling, you can try mailing us but we probably won't be much help. There is only one UN*X machine on campus, so we couldn't try porting it to different operating systems... Running xrgb: ------------- To run xrgb, simply type xrgb. Xrgb expects to find a file named rgb.txt in the current working directory. You can specify a different rgb file with the -f flag on the command line. The rgb file from our machine is included with this distribution. The rgb.txt file for your system can be found in the X11 library as a file called rgb.txt.
