I own a ranch in the northern part of Mexico where I grow mostly pecans and several varieties of peppers. The soil and climate are almost identical to those in Las Crices, NM. and Southwest Tx. I have never used a model and would like more information on their basic workings and functions. Thank you in advance for any and all information you can give me. Enrique Cordova

Unfortunately all I have is a running title and author: "Limitations to modeling pesticide disappearance" by "Chapman". Apparently it was published iin 1992, perhaps as part of a symposium (it is obviously printed from typed copy). This was one of the best articles I have ever seen on regression analysis of pesticide persistence data and its pitfalls. I reccomend it highly--now can somebody supply the reference? Even better, a copy? Don Wauchope

You can search UnCover by names, titles, words. You can use UnCover on-line. To do so you telnet pac.carl.org and then follow instructions and answer questions on your screen. UnCover is very detailed DB, it accounts for journals which you will hardly find in another DBs. AGRICOLA, for example does not review many of them. On the other hand AGRICOLA is more extended in time, for 25 years. I usually use both of them if I need a good literature review. UnCover is easier accessible though, several months ago AGRICOLA was not on-line yet. Ludmila On Fri, 5 Jan 1996 15:19:28 -0600 DON WAUCHOPE wrote: >> >Ludmilla: >You are great! ASAE session on modeling (DAVID BOSCH <DBOSCH@tifton.cpes.peachnet.edu>)

Date: Tue, 09 Jan 96 11:06:03 EST From: DAVID BOSCH <DBOSCH@tifton.cpes.peachnet.edu> Subject: ASAE session on modeling From: David Bosch, Research Hydrologist USDA-ARS, Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory PO Box 946 Tifton, Georgia 31793 e-mail: dbosch@tifton.cpes.peachnet.edu phone: 912-386-3515 fax: 912-386-7294 Subject: 1996 International Meeting of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers: Call for Papers The SW-21 Committee of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers is sponsoring two special sessions on 'Technologies for Measuring Porous Media Properties' (204) and 'Water Quality Modeling and Monitoring' (205) at the 1996 International ASAE meeting to be held on July 14-18, 1996 in Phoenix, Arizona. The objectives of these sessions are: 1) create a format where scientists can learn of others working on similar topics; 2) generate an exchange of scientific ideas; 3) establish linkages between scientists working on similar problems. The water quality session will focus upon current water quality research in the areas of riparian and wetland systems, forest and agricultural watersheds, GIS and decision support, analytical methods, and model validation. In the past few years several new water quality models have been developed which examine flow through riparian and wetland systems, watershed scale transport, and macropore flow. The application of GIS to water quality analysis at the watershed scale has expanded dramatically. In addition, better analytical techniques have resulted in more precise data bases. We would like to hear about any new and exciting research you have going on in any of these topic areas. I am inviting you to participate in these sessions of the meeting. Presentation proposal forms can be found in the October Issue of Resource Magazine. If you are interested in participating and do not have a presentation proposal form, please let me know and I will fax you a copy. The deadline for proposals is January 10, 1996.

By the way, in Opus I don't assume that degradation acts only on the pesticide in solution. I have no experimental evidence to help you with, so don't get your hopes up. I looked briefly at the mathematics of the problem, and it is obvious that if degradation is focused on the pesticide in solution, there should be a strong correlation between degratation rate and partition coefficient. Is there? I don't think so, but you are the one with the data to check. One could also look at the correlation by groups of pesticides with similar chemical natures, assuming they are equally amenable to microbial activity. What do you think? Mathematically, there is an enormous difference in effecive degradation rates for the two assumptions, and the degradation rate becomes highly dependent on the partition coefficient if the solution phase is the only one being degraded. Moreover, in that case the kinetics then come into the picture, since degradation also becomes a function of the rate that adsorbed material can come into solution when solution concentrations are reduced by microbial action. Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 11:40:20 -0700 From: Jon Hanson <jon@gpsr.colostate.edu> Subject: FW: 1996 Crop Simulation Workshop CALL-FOR-PAPERS 26TH Crop Simulation Workshop Biological Systems Simulation Group April 9, 10, 11, 1996 Fort Collins, Colorado Areas of Interest: The Crop Simulation Workshop is organized by an Ad Hoc group of scientists interested in all details of the subject of biological systems modeling with particular reference to agricultural systems. Papers will be considered on such diverse areas as modeling methodology, software modeling tools, models of biological systems (crops, pests, weather, soils, plant diseases, animals, economics, and subsystems), farm machinery operations, agricultural products processing, and modeling languages. Meeting Site: The 1996 meeting of the Crop Simulation Workshop will be held from noon on April 9 to noon on April 11, 1996 at the Fort Collins University Park Holiday Inn in Fort Collins, Colorado. If you desire to present a paper at this meeting, please complete the attached form and return with a maximum one page abstract. The tentative agenda for the workshop is also attached. The meeting will consist of oral presentations, poster sessions, and software demonstrations. Please make sure you identify which type of presentation you prefer. The limited number of slots for oral presentations will force us to move some requested oral presentations to the poster session. Time Allotment for Oral Presentations: Twenty minutes will be allocated to each oral presentation. However, speakers are responsible for leaving time for discussion. In addition, we would like to organize a special symposium on modeling the effects of management practices on root zone processes and crop production. Proposed topics of the symposium include: 1. Effects of tillage vs. no-tillage on soil water storage, soil temperature, mineralization, and plant growth. 2. Effects of residue cover and architecture on the above properties and processes. 3. Effects of different crop rooting systems and rotations on root zone properties and processes. If you are interested in presenting an oral presentation or speaking in the symposium, please check the appropriate box on the application form. Poster Presentations: Space will be allocated for poster presentations. Please mark whether your submission will be suitable for a poster presentation. Software Demonstrations: PC computers will be made available for demonstration of modeling software. If users need to bring their own equipment, please advise the program chairman so facilities can be arranged. IF you desire to demonstrate software, please note so in the space provided on the registration form. Travel from and to Fort Collins: A commercial shuttle service provides transportation between Denver International Airport and Fort Collins. Details will be provided to those who register for the workshop. Housing Information: A block of rooms has been arranged at the University Park Holiday Inn. Rates are $68.50 for a single occupancy room or $78.50 for a double occupancy room. These rates are available only if reservations are made before March 1, 1996. You are responsible for making your own room reservations. Please make your reservations under the group: USDA. This can be done by phone or fax. I have two basic questions : 1 - I know that a lot of research work in this area. So I would like to make a sort of state of the art in this domain. Would it be possible you send me some specific references, 2 - Is there any freeware/sharewere hydrological models I can interface with ArcInfo ?
