Art, what I know of transformer design is that it's a bit of black magic. I
looked through a couple of books here dealing with the stuff. There are
many factors transformers designers have to consider; core material,
efficiency, frequency response, power handling and quite a few others. Some
of the smaller power transformer can be used in limited audio applications
if frequency response isn't terribly important. It sounds like the
transformer you've been playing with even has potential.

Fair Radio has a number of audio transformers available inexpensively,
including one with a 62,500 ohm primary and 1340 ohm secondary, which is
nearly a 7:1 ratio transformer. (turns ratio = Squareroot(Z2/Z1)). Good
luck with your project.

Folks,
I have run into some setscrews in vintage gear recently that have a slot shape that
is new to me. Unlike the familiar hex slot, found in Allen setscrews, this slot is
cross shaped. There was a thread last Spring going in the BA list about "Bristol"
drivers. Is this cross shaped slot a "Bristol" slot? If so, where can I buy a set of
drivers for this shape slot? Any help appreciated.

Hi - is anyone else here using, or own a Geloso VFO/Exciter?

I have a model 4/104 with data on this and also on the 4/101 which
was the older Octal tubes version.

Mine uses 6CL6 to a 5763 - looks restorable.

I built that rig a couple of years ago and it worked beautifully. I call it
the 69er (6T9er) and I'd still be using it except I pulled the power
transformer for use in something else.

If you're looking for a nice little 5W rig, this is it.

I know the 6T9 is just a 6C4 and some pentode in a single envelope; might not
a 6C4 and 5763 work as well?

No results here in Vienna, Va.

Some consumer device was putting out a signal right on 17.2 kHz, wide and
with 60 Hz sidebands. It was there last night when I checked the receiver
out, and I had hoped it would be gone in the wee hours, but no such luck.

I could copy the following stations at my QTH this morning, all with some
kind of machine generated signal:

15.1 kHz HWU Lebinc, France
16.0 kHz GBR Rugby, England
18.1 kHz UMS Former USSR
19.6 kHz GBZ Crigion, Wales
21.1 kHz 3SB PRC
23.4 kHz NPM Lualualue, Hawii
24.0 kHz Cutler, Maine (I could have copied this one with a crystal set,
loud!)

But, alas these are not historic stations.

Hope someone was able to copy SAQ and get a good recording.

GM-

NIL reception of SAQ here in south Florida. Drove to a very quiet location
(the Everglades). I was able to hear Omega navigation signals loud and
clear, and some other transmissions I could not identify. I listened from
0855 until about 0945. Absolutely zilch copy.

Hope someone else had better luck. There was a geomagnetic storm beginning
according to WWV. Maybe this affected 17 KHz propagation.
