Excellent comment! That is INDEED part of th fun, getting MAKESHIFT
things to work and still getting some potent RF out!

By the way, THANK YOU to "SPARKS" who sent me a GREAT little box of

I thought that some on the list might be interested in my query to Radio Era
Archives and their response below particularly when they get to the more
ancient sets of QST. If you are not familiar with this operation see their
page at http://www.flashnet/~tsm/qst.htm.

The usual disclaimer. All I know about this is what I've seen on this tube.

Seems 99% of subscribers are concealed on the list.
I realize that is the default so I'm going to un conceal myself today.
How do others feel about this?
Are there advantages to being concealed?

Send the following to the listproc:

(address) listproc@theporch.com
(subject) conceal

(body) set glowbugs conceal no

Turn your sig file off and don't use the words I put in ( ).
You will get conformation very soon within a couple of minutes.

For the help file for any listproc send

listproc@domain (listproc@theporch.com)
(subject) help
(body) help

Hope this is useful to you! The commands for most listprocs are similer.

Out of 4 listproc lists I belong to only this one is default conceal yes.
Yes it's off topic but I want to know what all my list settings are so I
"query" the listproc of each new list I join.
I don't belong to any Majordomo or other type of servers so I don't know how
they work.

Forgive me if you must for going off topic.

Leaving it that way means the listproc won't return your
e-mail address to anyone who asks. Most mailing lists are set this
way these days to try and keep the spammers at bay.

Concealed means you don't show up on the list of subscribers.
You still belong to the list and can read/reply as usual getting ALL list mail.
If someone does
listproc@domain
(subject) recipients
(body) recipients list (name of list)
they will get a list of all NON concealed subscribers.

Don't worry about your address being concealed. Thats the default for
glowbugs but not for some of the other lists I'm on.

For listproc commands (if you want to know) send mail to:

listproc@theporch.com
(subject) help
(body) help

Turn your sig off when sending mail to listproc & don't include the text in ().

Hi Folks,

I just came across this URL for a web page that Fair Radio Sales Co. has
under construction:

http://alpha.wcoil.com:80/~fairadio/

There's a couple of one of a kind items listed there:

- Peter Dahl transformer: 3450 vct, 1.6 A

- 10H, 10 kV, 1A choke

It also says their fall supplement will be mailed out this month.

HEY! It's a reply from AF4K!

So, uh Bb - how do we UN-conceal ourselves?
Sure would be nice to see a LIST of who is here!

I will if someone will tell me the PATH to the INDEX file.

Nobody knew until I posted my "QUERY" to the listproc!
Thought being concealed was kinda strange since other listproc lists I
belong to don't conceal members addresses as the default as ours does.

My apologies to Bob NA4G, we started a QSO listening for

Found it!

Glad I never throw anything away. This weekend, while crawling in the
attic to run some TV cable, I came across a bag full of old magazines.
"The Scrounger" was presented in Electronics Illustrated, September 1964.
It was the cover article and written by Herb Friedman, W2ZLF. The tag
read " $5 builds this 10-Watt ham transmitter!" Comparing the one I
built to the article, I found that I had souped it up with a 6L6 (a 6V6,
6K6 or 6F6 was spec'd.) and I changed the output network to a "pi net"
from the original link coupled tank wound on a toilet tissue roll. The
original design covered both 80 and 40 meters with one coil. The rated
input was 10 Watts, so I guess mine is right in the ballpark. Nothing
else unusual about the circuit. I'll be "scrounging" through the rest of
this stack of mags. and I'll report what I find.

Bill--

Visio's symbol collections are in a proprietary format, and I'm not sure
about exporting them AS symbols. However...I can place them all on a
drawing file and export the drawing file as a DXF, which nearly all CAD
programs can import. Let me work on this and I'll post to the list as soon
as a file is available.

Good luck and let me know how it works.

Harley--

I haven't heard of VisioHome but I assume it's a "defeatured" version of
Visio. My guess is that it can take any standard Visio stencil file. So
here's what we'll try: I'll make up a file of Visio goodies and post it on
my FTP site, and then message the list to let you all know it's there.

Good luck with it and let us know how it works.

Maybe not. I recently took one such FT-241A holder apart - inside was a
plated, wire-mounted crystal about 0.3 inch on a side. I seemed to me that
it was either really fundamental on the 22 mc frequency or a third overtone
unit at about 7 mc.

Not likely in the hundreds of kc region.

Check the details of your slicer operation - you may find that the filter is
actually at 22 mc and the crystal unit is operating at its fundamental at
that frequency.

Subject: Help with PI tank...
Message-ID: <199611251620.IAA02486@montana.nwlink.com>

Hello GB'ers,

I am just completing work on my latest project, a 6V6 transmitter built
in an audio amplifier chassis I bought from Larry Szendrei (he convinced
me to save the amplifier I had and use his old one instead - good choice!).

Anyway, I got it basically running. The power supply runs 385 volts and I
am reading about 50+ ma when out of resonance on the plate meter. The
oscillator
is working fairly well, and seems chirp free in my receiver across the room.
However, I cannot seem to get the PI tank to resonate worth a dang. I
am using a 700pf antenna-side variable, a 300pf plate variable, and a
coil of 38 turns #18, 1.25 inches in diameter, airwound stock with a piece
of thin plexiglas in the middle to allow it to attach to the chassis
vertically. I have a safety choke from the output to ground. Probably
something around 2 to 4 mh. (Gonna cut that out tonight - maybe is not
the value I think it is)

I have tried every tap on the coil, and have tried adding 360, 490, and 700pf
of fixed capacitance in parallel with the output cap and simply cannot attain
resonance. My load is a 52 ohm Atlas dummy with a cheapie SWR bridge in
line. Nary a blip of output at any time. The plate reading never even
gives the hint it's close to resonance. I know I have enough plate
capacitance, because I can kill the oscillator by fully meshing the
plates. So something is amiss in the coil, output cap, or safety choke.

I've never had this before in a tank. I tried grid dipping the coil but I
cannot
get a reliable reading. It seems to dip rather deeply at 7 to 8 mc, but
I can't be sure. It seems that if the dip is there, I should hit resonance
when the thing is oscillating, eh?

Any tips would be appriciated. I'm SO close to having this little guy
on the air. It's the cutest rig I've ever built, thanks to Larry S and
his cool little amplifier chassis. I'll be posting pix when it's done
and working. Even found a J47 key (J38 on a black base) with a green
cable just for this rig. Eventually, I'll add bandswitching to allow
80, 40, and 20 (or 30) meter operation. Of course, it helps to have
a PI net that will tune!

Thanks in advance
