Looks like my original post was eaten by the internet worm or
something... Long time no see me own post.

Anyway, here is a repost (rev 2).

Thank you everyone and thank you for the invitation.
Well, I'm 41, single except 3 cats and living in the country side
in the southern half of Sweden, 25 km southeast of Linkoeping and
200 km south of Stockholm. Not a bad place, QRN seldom more than S2
on 80M.
I've been a ham since 1973 and have been on the VHF-UHF bands since
but have been working very hard to get on the HF bands lately.
I expect to be QRV on HF this summer.

My main interest is ham radio and homebrewing tube gear, both audio
and radio.
Second is golf, carrying a 19 handicap.
Third is British motorcycles, have a 1978 Triumph.

3 hobbies impossible to combine? Yes! But it works.

The collections are audio and radio only. I collected stamps once
but lost interest in it and sold the whole lot. I bought the Triumph
for the money.
I have around 400 tubes, mostly NOS of many different types.
In the radio room is a SB301/401 twin in perfect working order except
the 401's meter, a TS-830 (well, it's not a BA), a homebrewed 2 meter
sand state transverter with a tube PA featuring a QQE-03/12 (like
6360) and a 50W 2 meter PA using a single 4CX250B in class A. 180W
input and 50W out, oh dear, but 24 dB of gain is not bad.
Further up on the shelves are a homebrewed 2 meter SSB/CW transmitter
driving either a homebrewed 13W sand state PA or the 50 watter, a
SB303 in perfect order, another SB303 not in perfect order...
One 70 cm and one 23 cm transverter are there also (kits, not HB).
Waiting for restoration is a German RX57 ham receiver from the fifties
along with some tubed 2 meter FM mobiles. I have some BA instruments
also, among them a Tektronix 585 scope.
Under construction now is a dip meter using a triode of course!
Planned is a HF CW transmitter with one or two tubes, probably for 20
meter.

I can confirm the 80M conditions to be good with transatlantic
paths starting from around 2200Z but, unfortunately, there is a
steady carrier at 3580 over here... I've heard DL-VE contacts on phone
where the DL had 5 watts out in the mess at 3795.

I was running ol' Grandma Hartley and Twinnie Triode again last night, and,
although I was not well heard west of the big muddy, because of my N/S
antenna propagation, I was heard with 3 watts input and maybe 1 watt out
(If I hold me choppers correctly whilst smiling.....(:+}}.... ).

The ol' regenerator were on the ragged edge, and the boys out west in
TX/LA land were fine 559-579 back in NC, even with the antenna pointing
N/S. Alas, they only were able to note some peanut whistle was there.....
Within about 300 miles, though, the peanut whistle was well heard.

So, fer heavens sakes, there, Myrtle, them thar teensie-weensie BA/GB

Hi there Bob. Heard that little rg all the way up here but the QRN and
whistles from leaky TV sets made it extremely difficult. I was running the
dual-firebottle Invader 2000 at the time. I still haven't had a chance to
pick up a 3579 crystal so I can operate the Adventurer on that freq. When I
get one I am also going to build a glowbug for 80/40.

[snip!]

Doug and Co... speaking of BC pulls, does anyone know of any good
sources of BC pulls like 4-1000, 4-400 or 833 tubes etc. ???

Please e-mail to me at bry@mnsinc.com if you know

There is right now an AMAZINGLY LOUD QSO going on on top of WWV on
10.0000 MHz in Spanish that is drowning out WWV!

There are at least four stations - TWO OMs and two YLs all talking like
CBers "Hola hola hola hola hola!" and stuff like that! It sounds JUST
like 27 MHz... Unbelievable! They are just JABBERING mindlessly.

Since WHEN did the ITU designate 10.000 MHz as a freq for 2 way
chatting like this?
Unbelievable! OK, I digress... sorry, I will try to behave, but you
should HEAR this crap! Whatever next!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my request for current prices for Collin's
gear, and a replacement relay. Much appreciated. Hope to get all the items
working and tested soon.

Is it OK to mention a Collin's rig here that doesn't have glowing things in
it? Unfortunately, the most expensive piece of equipment that I must sell
for my friend's widow is a KWM-380, probably used only a few hours to test,
perfect condition. It took my friend 7 years to locate the following
options, but he never found the time to install them: serial interface,
heavy keypad, 6kHz, 1.7 kHz, 340 Hz filts, WARC/MARS mod, speech processor,
noise blanker, and service manual. Its the first time I've ever seen one of
these, and it took me weeks to round up these items and their documentation
which was scattered throughout the house.

Please email me the info on anyone you know who is a reputable KWM 380
expert who might be able to help me find a buyer for this? I have some
names, but I'm looking for a few references.

The other item is circa 1940. Not the one in the recent Collins/Goddard QST
article. Its a little fancier. I will give more info about it when I clean
off that part of his workbench, and actually can get to this item.

Boy, I wish I had the resources to purchase some of this stuff.

Thanks,

Steve N2MNN in NJ

This is a common occurance. I have called the FCC about this numerous
times. I have also written to the engineer-in-charge of WWV, thinking
they may want to complain too.

Well, while in the Coast Guard I'd sometimes take a break from
the CW watch and take the voice watch for a few hours; that
included monitoring 2182 kc (international SSB calling
and distress freq'y). At night it was unbelievable what
would happen on there: The Mexican fishing boat crews apparently
did a lot of drinking in the evenings, and they'd get on 2182
and sing the night away to each. After their voices got tired they'd
play with their auto-alarm signals (the voice auto-alarm consists
of two-alternating tones - it's *supposed* to only be used during
distress).

The guys on the 160m email list have a different sort of problem
they complain about: Fishing buoys in the Gulf each apparently
contain a beacon that operates on 160m...

Oh, on rec.radio.cb someone gave a list of frequencies that
freebanders where known to play on; several of those freqs
were the 5 MHz over-water air-to-ground channels...

I've gone beyond letting these things raise my blood-pressure; now
I just shake my head and plug in the soldering iron and get lost
in my own enjoyable little world.

Jeff KH2PZ

I'm going to put a list of my Xtals on a page on my site.

If anyone has a list of their own please e-mail it to me in this format.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Email@server.co.uk

4000 27125 12005 3575 56121 1800
14500 etc etc etc etc
-------------------------------------------------------------

This way I can cut and paste between the lines and update my list.
please put all frequencies in khz and use no more that 6 rocks a line.
They don't have to be in any order as those searching can use the find
option on their browser.
I know it would be ideal to include xtal types but this can be asked on
contact with swapper. I would rather that money was not charged (maybe
P&P) but that true swapping/giving occured.

the URL will be http://www.chubs.demon.co.uk/xtals.htm

Oh and don't forget to visit my homepage on the way out.

Regards all.
