You could increase the load by making it a tuned circuit at 700 Hz or so.
I can't think of any easy way for you to find what capacitance is
necessary
to resonate your transformer at 700 Hz, however. I gather you have
little in the way of test equipment. Guess I'd start with about 0.01uf.

Good luck. (You didn't really want to listen to ssb, did you?)

             $$$ READ THIS $$$

NEW VERSION FOR 1997!! (Legal questions addressed!!)

In late October of 1996, I saw an article in an internet
newsgroup telling me that I could make $50,000.00 within a month
for an investment of only $5.00. I thought, "OH YEAH!!! I'VE
GOT A BRIDGE I'LL SELL YOU TOO!!!"
It sounded like all the rest of the "get rich quick" schemes and
scams I've seen over the past few years.

I spoke to my attorney, a few friends and my wife about
it, and they all agreed it was some kind of scam. I can't stand
scams, because usually someone gets burned, and I didn't want it
to be me. After rejecting the idea at first, it kind of played
on my mind and I thought, "What if it really worked?" I realized
all I had to lose was $5.00, I usually blow that much on the
lottery every week anyway, so I figured what the heck, and
decided to give it a shot.

Within two weeks I began receiving money in the mail!
Soon, hundreds, and then thousands of dollars began to roll in.
Within 4 weeks, I had received a total of $41,219.00! It came
from everywhere in the world. Lately, I've doubled my efforts
and the money is rolling in even faster. I would tell you how
much but then the IRS would know also, let's just say it's a VERY
comfortable living. Now, I am really going to work! Anybody can
afford to gamble $5.00 on a chance to make $35,000.00 or more in
a month, especially when the business has already proven itself.

If you follow the three steps below, there is no reason why
the same shouldn't happen to you! This is a legitimate investment
opportunity. You invest $5.00, and you receive a return on your
investment. So does the next investor. THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL!
THIS IS NOT A CHAIN LETTER! THIS IS PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE!
 (See additional legal details below.)

 THE PROCEDURE IS SIMPLE:

         1) Invest your $5.00 by writing your name and address on five
seperate pieces of paper along with the words: "PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR
MAILING LIST." (In this way, you're not just sending a dollar to
someone; you're paying for a legitimate service.) Fold on $1.00 U.S.
Treasury bill, money order, or bank note inside each piece of paper,
and mail them by standard U.S. Mail to the following five addresses:

         1. J. Russell
              872 W. Bigelow
              Findlay, OH 45840

         2. Silvestre Domingo Magos
              1833 Vicente Dr.
              San Luis Obispo, CA 93405

         3. L. Lehr
              329 Lafayette Rd.
              Carneys Point, NJ 08069-2543

         4. G. Seidler
              379 Walnut St.
              Stoughton, MA 02072

         5. K. Wade
              2349 Thornhill st.
              Terrace, BC. CAN
              V8G 4Z5

         2) Now remove the top name from the list, and move
the other four names up. In other words, #5 becomes #4 and
so on. Put your name as the fifth one on the list. You can
do this by simply retyping the article or reposting it to
other newsgroups with the edited addresses.

         3) Post the article to at least 200 newsgroups.
There are 22,000, so it shouldn't be hard to find that many.
Remember, there are no "Free Lunches" in this world and so the
harder you work the more money you will make.

You are now in the mail order investment business, and
should start seeing returns within a week or two. Of course,
the more newsgroups you post to, the greater your return will be.
If you wish to remain anonymous, you may use a pseudonym, but
 make sure address is correct.

                 LEGAL ???

People have asked me if this is really legal, and it is.
You are using the Internet to advertise your business. What is
that business? You are assembling a mailing list of people who
are interested in home based computer and online businesses and
methods of generating income at home. REMEMBER - people send you
small fee to be added to your list. It is legal. What will you
do with your list of thousands of names? That's up to you.

HERE IS WHY THE SYSTEM WORKS:

The internet is growing at a tremendous rate - it doubles
in size every 4 months. Think about it. You see those "Make Money
Fast" posts more and more. All that growth means profits for
everyone who participates. There are no losers.

Of every 200 posts I made, I received roughly 5 responses.
That probably doesn't seem like much. You make $5.00 for every 200
posts with your name at #5.

Each person who sent you $1.00 now also makes 200 additional
postings with your name at #4. i.e. 1000 postings. On average, 50
people will send you $1.00 with your name at #4. That's $50.00

Your 50 new agents make 200 postings each with your name
 at #3 or 10,000 postings. Average return 500 people=$500.00.
They make 200 postings each with your name at #2=100,000
 postings=5000 returns at $1.00 each=$5,000.

Finally, 5,000 people make 200 postings with your name
at #1 and you get a return of $50,000 before your name drops off
the list. AND THAT'S IF EVERYONE DOWN THE LINE MAKES ONLY 200
POSTINGS! Total income in one cycle = $50,000.

From time to time, when you see your name no longer on the
list, you take the latest posting that appears in the newsgroups,
and send out another $5.00, and put your name at #5, and start
posting again. Remember, 200 postings is only a guideline. The
more you post, the greater the return.

Lets review why you should do this. THE ONLY COST IS $5.00,
5 STAMPS, AND 5 ENVELOPES. Anyone can afford $5.00 for such an
effortless investment with such SPECTACULAR RETURNS.

Some people have said to me, "What happens if the scheme is
played out and no one sends me any money?" BIG DEAL, so you lose
$5.00. But what are the chances of that happening? SINCE THIS IS
A BRAND NEW PROGRAM AS OF JANUARY 1997, YOU'RE IN ON THE GROUND FLOOR!

There are millions of internet users, and millions of new
net surfers every month. REMEMBER - read the instructions carefully,
and play fairly. THAT'S the only way this will work. Get a printout
so you can refer back to this article easily.

Keep a list of everyone that sends you money, keep good books,
pay your taxes, and always keep an eye on the postings to make sure
everyone is playing fairly. You know where your name should be.

If you're really not sure or still think this can't be for real,
then don't do it. But please print this article and pass it along to
someone you know who really needs the bucks, and see what happens.

REMEMBER - HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY. WHAT IS $5.00 TO YOU?
YOU DON'T NEED TO CHEAT THIS IDEA TO MAKE MONEY!!! (We will monitor
the program and if we find you have cheated by not sending your money
to your five recipients, we will just dump you out of the system.)
This is the easiest way that you can make a buck. Think how excited
you'll be to open up your mailbox day after day! Will it be $50.00 or
$5,000.00?? Start making your plans, because it can happen to you.

DON'T PASS UP THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!!!

 EXTRA SECTION:

HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS FAST WITH YOUR WEB BROWSER:

The fastest way to post to a Newsgroup:

Simply highlight and COPY (Control-C for copy) the text this e-mail
message and PASTE it into a text editor such as Notepad and SAVE it
 (as a .txt file).

After you have made the necessary changes that are outlined above,
simply COPY and PASTE the text into the message section of the message
composition window and to be posted to the Newsgroup and post it.!

 ***********************************************************

If you have Netscape 3.0 follow these simple steps:

 1) Click on any Newsgroup like normal, THEN click on 'TO NEWS', which
is on the far left when you're in the Newsgroup page. This will bring
up a box to type a message in.

 2) Leave the Newsgroup box like it is, CHANGE the subject box to
something flashy like, "NEED CASH $$$ READ HERE $$$" or "FAST CASH"!!!

 3) Tab once and you should be ready to type. Now, retype (only once)
THIS entire article WORD FOR WORD, except insert your name at #5,
and remove #1 off the list, plus anyother small changes you think
you need to make. Keep almost all of it the SAME!

 4) When you're done typing the WHOLE article, click on FILE in THIS
BOX, RIGHT ABOVE SEND, NOT WHERE IT SAYS NETSCAPE NEWS ON THE FIRST
 BOX.

Click on SAVE AS when you're under FILE. Save your article as a text
file to your C: or A: drive. DO NOT SEND OR POST YOUR ARTICLE UNTIl
YOU DO THIS. Once saved, move on to number 5 below.

NOTE: If you don't want to type in the whole article by hand,
AND you know how to use a plain text editor (like NOTEPAD), you
can edit the file ahead of time, then attach it as shown in step 6.

 5) If you still have all of your text, send or post to this
Newsgroup now just by clicking send, which is right below FILE,
 and right above Cc:.

 6) Here's where you're going to post to all 200. OK, click on
any Newsgroup then click on 'TO NEWS' , again in the top left
corner. Leave the NEWSGROUPS BOX alone again, put a flashy subject
title in the SUBJECT BOX, hit TAB once you're in the body of the
message. Click on ATTACHMENTS, which is below the SUBJECT BOX.
You will get another box to come up. Click on ATTACH FILE, then
find YOUR file that you saved; click on the file, and then click
'OPEN' now click on OK; if you did this right, you should see your
file name in the attachments box, and it wil be shaded green.

Note: If you don't want to type in the whole article and you
know how to use a plain text editor (Notepad), you can edit the
file ahead of time, then attach it.

 QUICK TIP!!!

You can post this message to many Newsgroups at a time by simply
selecting a Newsgroup near the top of the screen, hold down the
SHIFT key, and then select a Newsgroup near the bottom of the
screen. All of the Newsgroups in between will also be selected.

IF YOU USE INTERNET EXPLORER IT'S JUST AS EASY...HOLDING DOWN
THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON, highlight this article. Then press the
"control" and the "c" key at the same time to copy this article.
Then print this article for your records, to have the names of
those you will be sending $1.00 bills.

Go to the Newsgroup and press "post an article". A window will
open. Type in your headline in the subject area then click in
the large window below. Press "control" and the "v" keys and
the article will be placed in the window.

If you want to edit the article, do so and then highlight and copy
it again. Now every time you post the article in a new Newsgroup
all you have to do is press "control" and "v" and press post.

That's all there is to it. Each time you do this, all you have to
do is type in a different Newsgroup, until you have posted it to
 200 or more DIFFERENT Newsgroups.

You see? Now you just have 199 more to go!!! (Don't worry each one
takes about 30 seconds, once you get used to it.)

REMEMBER 200 IS THE MINIMUM. The more you post the more money you
will receive. AND THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!!!

DON'T LET THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY PASS YOU BY!!! START
ENJOYING THE GOOD LIFE, YOU DESERVE IT!!!

Hi Gang,
I need your input on a matter very important to this list. Jack has informed
me that as of May 1, the glowbugs list will become a paid-subscription-only
list like the BA list. The rates will be $12/year until June 1 when the rate
will increase to $20/year. There is no price break for dual subscriptions,
so for GB and BA both you will pay $24 this year and $40 next year.
Jack is the listowner of the boatanchors list and helps maintain the
hardware that both the BA and GB lists run on. The hardware is owned by Jack
and Phil, a non-ham UNIX programmer.
Let's see what the group consensus is and proceed from there.
Thanks and 73 all,
de Conard, WS4S

OK guys, before anyone bothers to echo this crap all over the net:
1) Take two deep breaths.
2) Let Conrad handle the breach of security.
3) Delete the crap.
4) Lets talk glowbugs.

Because I know Jack Hill is out of town, when I get home tonight I will
chase this idiot
down if Conrad needs any help.

That should be Administrative. I also told that Kevin dude to quit spamming

His address from the message header is sparkie@yellowhead16.net.
A hundred or so requests should let him know how we feel.

I wish I had a unix box up at home.....(:+{{.....

Alas, methinks glowbugs will have to move or vaporize. I would hate to
see it vaporize, since there was a lot of good camaraderie amongst the
group......

Will the listowner provide me a listing of email addresses for the
members, and if something comes up down the road, maybe I can ask around
for some local input (with the consensus of the individual members)?

I don't know what I can do, but maybe I can hogwire up a unix box, somehow.
There is a BIGGIE hamfest locally in a few weeks, and maybe I can pick
up enough parts to put up a linux or bsd box or something like that.

Food for thoughts......keep it close to the vest, OK.....

Well, for my $.02, I never really did see the need for a
second list. The topics overlap continually, and a very high
percentage of the postings are cross posted anyway. I think
each and every topic on GB that has been posted, would
be quite welcome on the BA list.

        YMMV.

Well guys, it's been fun. Will miss all the good tube stuff that comes

that has come down this listserv, and I think I understand the reasons
behind the provider wanting to charge, but I elect not to pay.

I get by extremely well in all my sets with a 10 h choke. No sweat.
That 250h and larger idea is mostly bogus, and a sales con by National
for that magical coupler of theirs. They did not want to tell you that
almost any old common ordinary power supply filter choke would work.
Also, the coupling capacitance should be greater than the 0.01 commonly
used, in the neighborhood of 0.1 to 1.0ufd. Also, interstage xfmrs need
some iron. If your transformer is tiny in its core, that is too small to
do any good. Real audio interstage xfmrs are as big as power supply
choke cores in the 50-100ma size. Those tiny surplus xfmrs commonly used
are insufficient, in my hands.

Hint..... do it by ear! You can clearly hear the lowpass or bandpass
function as you dittle the number of 0.01ufd caps you put across the
choke or audio interstage transformer. If it is a xfmr, tune both the
input and output sides for best results.

This is a very good point. Ross Hull, in QST, about June, 1932, did an
article on tuning the chokes in regen receivers for increasing selectivity.
It works very well, in my hands. I use anywhere from 0.01 to 0.03 or so,
not all that critical, and it not only cuts the highs, but makes the
10h choke have some higher impedance (remember the parallel tank is a
very high impedance at its resonant frequency).

I changed my 1925 regen into a 1930 regen by replacing the '01A's with
a '32 detector and a '30 audio, and the same original interstage xfmr
works just fine. Don't let the theory behind the 250-1000h choke fool
you. Anything above 10h works fine. Grapple up a real 10h power supply
choke with real iron in its core rather than one of those feeble little
10-100K almost chokes transformers with insufficient iron to do the job.
If the core won't pass at least 50-100ma in power supply mode, it will
not pass muster in a regen as the impedance coupler. I will leave the
theoretical details to others, but it has to do with the current passing
through the small or large hunk of iron.......(hint --- remember swinging
chokes and how they work at high or low currents).

> Good luck. (You didn't really want to listen to ssb, did you?)

Hey, SSB comes in very well on a good regen. But, I don't really give
a hoots poots about ssb, since it tends to spoil one's fist (the trigger
finger on the mike gets too much exercise, ruining yer dit swing..(:+{{..).

I was playing around on my baby regen this weekend, and heard all the boyz
on the BA/GB QRG with good headfone volume with only a 6C5 and 30 volts on
the plate with 2K tin cans. With a pair of 30's or a '32 or '30 combo,
the tin can volume was earsplitting, and I had to uncouple down to less
than 1pf (used the insulation on the wire as the coupling capacitor when
the wire was running through the binding post to an existing 1 turn link
or 1pfd grid coupling cap --- that makes it almost nil coupling and still
enough volume to make your ears hurt on 1AW or the silly RTTY on the QRG).

I might as well throw in my $.02 as well. I'd like to see us keep the GB
list going, even if it means paying for it. I realize that most things
on GB are cross posted on BA but, IMHO, the BA list has kind of gotten
out of hand. There is too much meaningless chatter on BA not directly
related to BA issues. It almost has become like the CB frequencies. GB
is better in that people do a much better job at keeping their comments
on the appropriate subjects.

Well, shucks. For my part, I would pay the $20 and be glad of it, because
the company has been wonderful and I'm financially well-off as these things
go. However, unlike the BA list, which I think caters heavily to
collectors, GB serves those who pinch pennies and do relatively little
swap-n-sell. I fear that even if I did subscribe, I'd be all by myself.

I do NOT begrudge Phil Porch the money. I know from experience what it
takes to keep these things up and running, and while we might quibble about
the finale subscription rate, the facts remain that nothing's really free.

I intend to be involved in this list or any list that succeeds it in
spirit, but I fear that making it a fee-based list will cut participation
by 90%--and THAT is the real problem.

I'll be here, whatever happens, and where the list goes, I'll follow.

Conard,

I'd much rather put my $12 bucks on GB than BA any day. BA has a lot of
nice and very helpful folks so I'm not here to bash, but the talk is not
very relevant anymore. I'm not to interested in what went on at a
hamfest, but I am interested radios; Regen's, one tubers and the REAL
meaning behind "Amateur" radio.

I realize we cross post a lot (I've done it myself) but the "meat" is in
GB at this time, and I'd like to see it keep going.

Where do I send my $12 for now? I am having a hard time swallowing the
60% price increase after June 1 -- I enjoy this stuff, but I'm not an
addict!

Hey guys, don't unsub yet. I just sent off a request to contesting.com
(they run the 160m email list) to see if they'd be interested in hosting
our little list. If not, I'll keep trying other sites.

Phil Porch was happy to make room for us when I initially asked him
about creating GlowBugs, so I'm sure we'll be able to find another
host. But please don't unsub yet until we can tell you the name of
a new site.

Well, don't sign off until we see what happens. I, personally don't
think there is enough traffic on glowbugs to warrant the charges.
BA is fine, but has become a sellers exchange and lost some of the
meat that makes glowbugging fun. I wade through it in digest format
and rarely get more than 5% interest in the run of articles, lately.
Granted I tend to crosspost a lot there, but I think there are common
interests in at least a few of the BA crewe, in the glowbug spirit.
It is a great resource, sometimes, tho. Perhaps I am guilty of putting in
too much time on the GB list, but it has made hamradio most rewarding,
of late. I would think that a reasonable solution can be found.
We Glowebuggeites are a rather wierd bunch that are kind of in the
fringes of boatanchordom. I have always loved the BA list, but it has
changed a lot in its flavor over the years I have been aboard (almost
since the beginning). As one of our GB members suggested, ``the meat is
in the Glowbugs list''. I concur, when it comes to the hands-on OT style
ham radio where ye gets yer gemittinfingerpokins in the works.

I am working on some possible solutions. Likewise are some of the unsung
others of us die-hards. So, don't let the doom and gloom get to you, but
let us cooperatively see where it goes, and where the best path to the
future lies. If we are really choking up theporch, then there is reason
to pay for the service. If we are not choking it up, then there are more
than a few of us that have some misgivings. And, it maybe time to seek
other paths. Hang in there..... a good solution will prevail.....

Well as far as the BA list goes I dropped my sub when they began charging
and now read the rec.radio.amateur.boatanchors newsgroup instead. I may do
the same thing for glowbugs. Maybe I should check
rec.radio.amateur.homebrew for tube based projects & discussion. Sorry, but
I just don't like the idea of paying for a list when I'm not building
anything or posting much. Mainly I just read. A whole lot of the topic
threads get deleted without reading them.

Nope, forget r.r.a.h, Just checked 600 headers, it seems to be all solid
state.
Maybe someone should start rec.radio.amateur.glowbugs
I'll check into how it's (creating a rec NG) is done.

Something has to be done I guess...
