There seems to be something about administering a system that makes a
person seem arrogant. Maybe it's the constant whining of the lusers.
By arrogance, I mean a "take it or leave it" attitude. We are mostly
intelligent people who can handle a reasonable explaination better
than take it or leave it. Instead, all we have is speculation and
too much dissatisfaction. The straight scoop would reduce this to a
plain decision about what the list is personally worth to each of us.

And it's no good saying you can't discuss the future of the list on
the list. Joseph Heller would be proud. Catch-22.

I know I'm going to feel the wrath of the list for even suggesting this,
but what about (carefully) running it off the AC mains? (or using an
isolation xfrmr?)

I have a xmtr circuit which uses a single 117 volt tube, where you
only ran one pwr lead to the wall socket - your gnd wire supplied
the neutral lead. It even had a neon warning light to tell you
if you had the wall plug in upside down!

I think I'll run and duck for cover now...

Now that I am back at home, I can close the loop regarding the B&W catalog
and Miniductor/Airdux specs. First of all, the tables included in the
catalog for the Miniductor/Airdux specs. include the Model Number,
inductance, coil length, coil diameter, turns per inch, and wire size. If
there is any interest, I will take the time to type in the table so I can
post it.

As for the address, it is listed as:

Barker & Williamson
10 Canal Street
Pristol, PA 19007
Phone: (215) 788-5581
Fax: (215) 788-9577

Please note that this address and phone number comes from many years ago
(catalog dated January 1994) and may not be up to date.

Brian;
enjoyed your 6C4, 6AQ5 posting. Actually, the slight sloping panel
works great, so long as whatever we hang through the front and on to the
inside is not too long in depth, or too large in over all height and
width. The older heaver ones are stronger (and rare) and for my regen
stuff, more stable. The kind mom (that would mean grandma or great
grandma, to a lot of us) used to bake bread in are, (like mom and her
bread also rare) the best. These durables are sometimes found at the
other kind of flee markets. Aloha, Peter KH6CTQ

Doug,K7YD;
I for one, will sure miss your BA/GB postings. They always spoke from
and to the heart of our many in this our vocation at least and to our
advocation at best. IMMHO, I feel that the art of communications, both
old and new, is much like a religion as it is (for me) and perhaps for
many of us. It at least show that we are really comitted to something.
If it were not for this spirit, would we all not be trying to figure out
what un bottled fire is good for? I just have this bad gut feeling
because it all came about during this time of the year when historically
something and somebody else was trashed for some pieces of silver.

James;
Greetings and yes to the coil plug question. I offer my experience with
in the use of chopped and channeled, plug in edge, finger etched Pc
board cards and plugs. The old surplus stuff is G10 boards with gold
plated edge connector etching. A lot of times you can find a really
junker box with the boards and connectors intact. Good luck and keep on
plugging. Aloha Peter, KH6CTQ.

Hi gang--

The 6T9er originally appeared in the March 1971 QST, page 25. Note that
the "6T9er" name was an affectionate monicker *I* gave it; the term appears
nowhere in the literature. They call it "A 10-Watt, One-Tube Transmitter."

This is a good rig for "modern" construction as it uses parts you can get
from AES. The 6T9 is cheap, and AES sells the uncommon Compactron sockets.
The pi net caps are 365 pf and 1000 pf, which you can get by paralleling
the sections of one of those 3-section variables AES sells. (They actually
specify a 1000pf *trimmer*, but I don't know where you'd get one of those
these days.) The circuit is very simple and you can build it small.

Coil specs are provided for 160, 80, 40, and 20. I'm guessing that you
could make it go on 15 as well, but that depends on how much output you
could get from the crystal oscillator without a drive tuning circuit. They
call out Miniductor stock for the coils, but they courteously provide
mechanical specs for each coil as well. (TPI, diameter, length, wire gauge.)

I consistently measured 4w output on my B&W meter on 80m.

Anyone know of any local or other dealers who might have replacement
housing shells for a Weller WD-135 soldering gun? None of the "local
yokels" here have anything.

I called B&W and got the word that they are moving to Florida as you
read this. Must be a mom and pop operation. I got the wife first and
ended up talking to her husband. Sounded like they were pretty hectic.
Said they were loading a flatbed as we talked. They didn't have much
time to talk. I asked if they had a catalog and also asked if they still
sold air wound inductors. Yes to both. Bottom line is, call or fax after
April 1 and they will send a catalog. New phone number is 407-639-1510,
and new fax is 407-639-2545.

Hi Peter and thanks for the comments. I've decided to stick it out
here for a while....more fun to be had I'm sure. I got several notes
from folks who let me know there are changes coming that might make
the proposed charges a moot point. So....we wait.

This group echos what many of us started out in the Hobby
with....lots of desire and (in my case at least) darn little cash to
buy parts/gear with. So, it was my FIRST rig that was the wood
chassis 6V6 sporting bell wire coils with neat red and white striping
on them. Low power yes.....cheap...well, close for those times. But,
definitely fun.

I hope we, as a group can find a home where we can keep this kind of
thinking and enjoyment alive. It's an integral part of Amateur Radio
speaking to the heart of many of us, and allows sharing one of our most
valuable resources......help and shared experience for one another.

My best to all.....
