Message-ID: Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 10:57:40 -0600 Holly Crap!!! You have anyplace I can get a pick-up truck load of money for all these suggestions? LOL I like to build me a "play with my radio toys" bench not a do everything Electronics Lab. Some nice suggestions, but waaaay out of the average Hams pocket book I thinks. May need to plan what it is you really want the bench for. You could spend the rest of your life putting it all together and not enjoying the things you want to play with. After all, if you look at the ARRL Handbook; it would be nearly impossible to have one workbench to fit all aspects of Ham Radio. From QRP to Satellite.. Wheeew! what a spread. Better think about it for a while first. Remember it's not the one with the most toys that wins.... It's the one who gets to play the most with their toys. Keep the ideas coming though, might be a few good ones I can afford on my SS check. :-) No suggestions for the apartment size cooler for the beer and a chair for the visiting novice? Er better make that a recliner.... some of my stories take a while. ie. Rag Chew Award Then there was the time...... 73 K4TWO Gary "Too_Many_Tools" wrote in message news:1135137990.614743.204620@o13g2000cwo.googlegroups.com... > Thanks NT....I appreciate your detailed response....very helpful. > > Anyone else? > > How about arrangement of test equiptment? I have been using a rubber static relief mat, that holds up under high heat, and also has a natural curl, so parts always settle back inside the mat, and not roll away. This thing is great. I doubt if MCM still has a similar item. The stock number on the mat is not currently valid. I've been using color printers more lately, for laying out various things, either building things or fixing things. Having a circuit board, you can take pictures of both sides, then flip one side, and you can more easily trouble shoot or build things. Having a color laserprinter makes the process faster. Having multiple benches is almost mandatory for certain projects. I frequently use a Rubbermaid cart to put equipment on, and work right there on the cart. You can always push the cart away, and work on something else. Its also necessary sometimes for big or heavy objects, even dripping things like water baths. Screws, etc., stay inside the carts tray. A very bright flashlight held along the floor, will usually find parts much more easily than just looking around. At home I have had "workbenches". but my number one work bench, was the top of a washing machine. Its a bitch when the screws fall inside. greg Article: 101096 of rec.radio.amateur.boatanchors From: "Charlie Hugg" Subject: FS Blue Racer Bug Message-ID: Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 12:59:08 -0600 I have an old Blue Racer Standard Bug for sale. This is the kind of deal where you make up your own experience. You sit at a blank bench, and put your project in front of you, and go, "Now, where would I like my power supply, DVM, and scope be sitting while I do this?" Personally, I like to have everything possible at my fingertips, so I go with a U-shaped bench, a chair on wheels, and two tiers of shelves for stuff. So use your imagination! Make up the workbench of your dreams, custom- tailored to your very own personal specification. :-) Have Fun! Back in the novices days, I always was able to shift the crystals quite a bet . You sand them with a light abrasive to raise the frequency. Use something like tooth paste and scouring powder. If you over shoot the frequency, rub some pencil led on the crystal. If your careful, it's not that hard and you can just about figure out how many 'strokes' you need to shift it to your frequency. Anyway, it don't sound like you have much to loose, as you have a crystal that's close but can't be used. Ah, brings back memories. Five years ago, we had a paided-off home and were "sitting pretty." After several medical disasters, we've lost everything. The damn Medical Mafia extortion racket- and that's exactly what it is- is going to bankrupt us all. They whine and cry about how they can't make it, but look at the cars they drive and the homes they live in. The hospitals grieve and moan about how they're going broke, but you walk into their lobby and it's decked-out like friggin' Windsor Palace; it's obscene. Look at the salaries and bonuses of hospital and drug company boards; interesting, for people who paint themselves as concerned and caring about the sick. The drug companies sell a pill in Canada for $1 and sell it here for $50. They don't do that because they love Canadians; they're making money at $1 or they wouldn't sell it for $1 anywhere. They do it because *they can;* they have us "over a barrel." I don't mind people who work hard to make a good living. I *DO* mind it when they do so under false pretense. It makes them liars and thieves and extortionists, and that's *exactly* what they are. I hope that God has mercy on you and yours, D.S. "if you are applying for nursing home assistance,,,bla bla bla ... for up to 30 or 36 I forget. The state can take property belonging to the person needing nursing home care. I am glad Mom found that the State will come and take property of anyone being put in a nursing home under Medicare or Medicaid (Tenncare in TN) for up to 3 years prior to that time. Means they can take the house and cars >from kids. Like stealing from the dead. Mom had the Deed changed on the house 3 years ago in September so she beat them out of it. Horary for Mom! I didn't know that till I came down to help her out. She had signed Power of Attorney for my brother and I in 2001 incase something would happen that we needed to sign checks and such. When she was changing the Deed over to me, I had her sign herself so family couldn't come in and sue, claiming I took it away from her. She made it to me with her having life time rights to live here. Wish it could have been longer, but glad we had some time together. SO!!! If you plan on leaving something to the kids or whom ever. Better do it at least 3 years before you need your nursing home care. Mom passed on 16 November 2005 after just 4 days in the nursing home. I was able to help her stay at home till her 24 hours a day care surpassed my ability to assist her. Also, some places can force a nursing home prospect patient out of the house if it is decided that the home care puts the patient in danger. "Endangerment of a Dependent" Heil Hitler!!!??? In defense of the nursing home though is that after your money runs out they continue to care for you for as long as you live. I know people that have been in nursing homes for over 10 years and didn't have that much money when they went into the home. When my grandmother went into a nursing home in the early 60's the state of Minnesota had a sale of her estate which included her house. She was in the nursing home for over 15 years so it ended up a better deal for her children then if they had tried to finance her stay and have kept your estate. I fully understand the inequality in our society but the money has to come from someplace. So I think the person that is in need of help should have their estate used first before that State takes over. Let the children find their own way. "Endangerment of a Dependent" is really required being there are so many greedy don't give a shit children out there that are little Hitler's themselves.
