(My old boat anchor receiver is not calibrated that closely!) How about some schedules during the afternoons on 28.050 CW anyone? 73, E. V. Date: Tue, 10 Jun 1997 10:42:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Ken Gordon <keng@uidaho.edu> Subject: R-1004/BA swapfest... Bob and other list members with the R-1004 First: The R-1004 is working fine on band 3 now. I heard as many stations on 20 late this morning as I can hear on the SB-301. Gain is lower than on bands 2 and 1, but sensitivity seems to still be there. Noise is lower too. Will give you a more definitive report as soon as I can get it to the shop. Secondly: There IS a swapfest/hamfest in Rathdrum, Idaho this Saturday, June 14, 1997. It starts around 7:30 AM with breakfast. No entry fee or parking fee. Raffle of at least two radios, maybe three and other goodies. Lunch will also be served. Tables are apparently free too. Talk in on 147.080 repeater. Talk to KC7PPP among others. Place is Senior Citizens Center. To get to it, from I-90 (either direction) take the Hiway 41 cutoff to Rathdrum. Senior Citizens Center will be on the left side shortly BEFORE getting to Rathdrum. Their big, white disaster bus will be there too. I hope you can make it. I am not sure I can make it there, but will try to. In any case, let me know what you find there. Thirdly: I am trying to find out the military nomenclature numbers/description for the gas-engine driven generator power-supply which originally came with the AN/GRC-9 and will post to you when I find out. Date: Tue, 10 Jun 1997 00:08:12 -0800 From: "Kenneth G. Gordon" <keng@uidaho.edu> Subject: Re: 1AC6... Bob: Plugged one of the 1AC6's you sent me in place of the 1L6 in your R-1004. Works very well indeed. Will have to realign the tuning a bit since the inter-electrode capacitances are a bit different. However, one good thing: although the rx pulls off frequency a bit just like the R-1004 does with the 1L6 in place when I key the T-784, it INSTANTLY recovers when I lift the key, UNLIKE the 1L6. Also, general sensitivity seems to be much higher. Shortly after I talked with you on the 'phone, I worked K6KX/mobile CW on 7020 kHz with the GRC-109 combo. He was good and clear, estimated at 579 while he was crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Band 3 still seems to be less sensitive than bands 1 and 2, but will be able to test that tomorrow or Wednesday at the shop. I intend to rewire mine as a test to reverse the connections to pins 5 and 6 since the 1AC6 has those two pins essentially reversed from the 1L6. Also, the 1AB6 appears to be another replacement for the 1L6. Its base diagram and characteristics are identical to the 1AC6 except that it is has even higher transconductance. Did you say that the 1AC6 cost only $4.00 ? That is surely a lot cheaper than the $30 each for the 1L6. I will have your R-1004 back to you about a week before field day. I intend to have mine on the air, IF I can find some crankers for the hand-cranked genny. If I can't, I will use the AC supply and a 110 VAC genny, unless I have my DY-88 cabled up to run the GRC-109, in which case I will be running from a battery. Although I only have a few crystals, field day should be a blast with the GRC-109 and a Vee beam in the trees up on Moscow Mountain! Take care, and 73, Ken W7EKB

I only need this one section. I don't need the rest of the schematic - just the VFO. I had one but have misplaced it. I'm restoring a Marauder (well, trying to anyway!) and have a conked out VFO. Thanks, Dave WB7AWK ps - I have posted this to Heath, BA, and Glowbugs. Sorry to those like me who are on all three lists!
Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 01:48:06 -0500 (EST) From: "Roberta J. Barmore" <rbarmore@indy.net> Subject: A QSO at last! Hi! Well, the log said nil since Nov '96. I finally decided maybe it was the transmitter, and hooked up the Jones single-6L6 breadboard job. Wow, what a difference! Hunted around 40 at 11:00p EST (0400GMT) and didn't hear much (what's that stuff on 7050? AMTOR? Rat bellowings?). Settled on 7060kc, did a sloppy 3x3x2 and blam! N3XWQ comes back, 589 (QSB, alas) and we spend about ten minutes on the usual pleasentries. (He was getting frustrated with the QSB--I was 459 at best; and let's not talk about what my CW was like 'til I warmed up). About 24W input for the little breadboard job, and clear as a bell in the receiver--the previous lash-up tended to whoop. Loads up nicely, too. (50pF variable off a center-tap on the plate coil, and they warn it won't tune on some antennas. Doesn't mind a 40m doublet!) Going to have to shunt up the 100mA meter--pointer wants to go around a couple of times 'til I find the dip! (Metal zeroing adj, so it's in the cathode lead which doesn't help any). Had the tension too loose on the "wishbone" WW II key at first--no fun to send with one hand and screw down the spring with the other, mindful of the 450V at key-up! Well, it's kinda fun, in a twisted BA-ish way. ;) I'll try to be back on the rest of this week. Who knows, might even find the BA-net again! (I'll be the signal down in the mud, peeping "QRS?" most pitifully as missed dits pile up on the floor <wry grin>) 73, --Bobbi
