Its been quite a while since I posted the question looking for sources
for a simple device for shelling/threshing dried beans (eg: baking
beans). I was fortunate to get lots of interesting ideas, but forgot
to summarize for the net...until now.

The responses were quite varied. Several people suggested trying to
build by oneself. For instance, one could get a book describing the
workings of a combine, and try to duplicate it on a simpler scale
using a vacuum for the separation part of the process.

Still another suggestion was to look for an old-fashioned bean
thresher at a farm auction.

Lastly, Dave Irby gave me a list of commercially available small seed
threshers used by laboratories and small seed companies:

Thanks to all for the great ideas. Hope they are also of use to
others on the net.
