For anyone who is interested in growing fruit, especially, less common
varieties, I am plugging the California Rare Fruit Growers organization.
Despite the name, this is a world-wide organization, with members in
37 countries. I've attached the text of the membership info/application
below. If you want to grow fruits that aren't found in the produce section
of your local market, or just want to find out about other varieties of
"common" fruits, this is a great source.

CRFG relevant disclaimer: I'm only a member, I am just passing this on
to be helpful. (I get no "bounty" or "reward" if you join...:-) MH

PUBLICATIONS
------------
"Fruit Gardener" is published bi-monthly and contains articles about fruits and
vegetables that are of general interest. Features include articles on pest
control, tips for beginners, desert gardening, recipes, book reviews,
question-and-answer column, a calendar of events, and reports on the latest
seed acquisitions available to members. Advertisments offer rare, hardy and
tropical fruit trees as well as equipment and materials needed in and around
the garden. The December issue of the "Fruit Gardener" is an annual Journal,
revolving around the Fruit of the Year.

"Fruit Facts" contain concise descriptions of individual fruits, including
botanical identification, description, culture notes based on California
research and characteristics of cultivars.

SERVICES
--------
Fruit Specialists are available to answer specific questions relative to
individual fruits. First-time members receive a list of those specialists
along with a list of available back issues of CRFG publications and of nuseries
that carry subtropical and tropical fruit trees, bushes and vines.

Seed Bank collects exotic seeds and distributes them at nominal cost. It is
generously replenished by members from their plantings and with seeds gathered
in their travels.

Book Service offers books that are not generally available at special
reduced prices for members.

ACTIVITIES
----------
Chapters in different parts of California hold scheduled meetings with
educational programs. Members with similar growing conditions exchange
experiances, listen to guest speakers, share fruits and fruit products and
participate in a variety of activities. Members may join as many chapters as
they desire.

Fourteen local chapters are now located throughout the state.
	Foothill (along Foothill Freeway)
	Golden Gate
	Inland Empire
	Los Angeles Area
	Monterey Bay
	North San Diego County
	Orange County
	Redwwd Empire
	Sacramento Valley
	San Diego Area
	Santa Clara Valley
South Bay (Santa Monica, Palos Verdes)
Tri-Counties (Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo)
	West Los Angeles

Field Trips to members' plantings, nuseries, labs, etc. are scheduled
periodically both by chapters and by CRFG.

Annual Meeting is held on a Saturday in the spring of each year and includes
speakers, demonstrations, slide shows as well as exhibits of fruits, books, and
publications. A plant sale, tasting table and business meeting are held in
conjunction with the meeting. Occasionally, a two-day event may be scheduled
(Saturday, Sunday).
