02Apr96 File: hlp_data.txt INSTRUCTIONS FOR RUNNING RELATIONAL DATABASE SOFTWARE ---------------------------------------------------------- The program is written in Microsoft Access 2.0 and the full source code is available in the program. The program is for data entry into a relational database. The structure of the database and the software program is described in Mutation Research, 359, 103-117, 1996. You should have - this file - DATAMODL.ZIP (size 344,162) Please look at the size of DATAMODL.ZIP. On occasion, the file transfer will not be complete and you may end up with a truncated file. If this occurs, you will generally get an error like "Run PKZipFix" if you try and unzip the file. If you have no idea what "unzipping" a program means, you probably have no business modifying the program. I don't mean to sound condescending, but I'm trying to save you from needless aggrevation. The main data entry module is ADD2HPRT.MDB. The data itself is in HPRT.MDB. Many tables in ADD2HPRT are attached and attached tables are always a headache. I have a routine that reattaches all the tables if the app has been moved to a new subdirectory. If things do not seem to work, check to see that the tables in HPRT.MDB are ALL attached. The software is made available in the hopes that other researchers can modify it for their own needs. NOTE !!!! I have changed my mind about one aspect of the program. Splicing mutants that are complex (eg, have more than one mRNA) are recorded in both the tables related to splicing (tables SPL_CAUSE and SPL_EFFECT) and complex mutations (table COMPLEX). I think this is WRONG. I would suggest just keeping the information regarding splicing mutants in the tables related to splicing (tables SPL_CAUSE and SPL_EFFECT). DISCLAIMER The program is fairly complex and modifications should not be attempted by someone with little programming experience in Microsoft Access.
