07Feb99 File: hlp_lacz.txt INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING THE LACZ DATABASE AND SOFTWARE ---------------------------------------------------------- This version fixes a bug in the Report section that prevented the creation of certain reports. Users who have taken the program prior to 02 Oct 1996 should take the version now present on the site. The software runs on IBM-compatible PCs with Microsoft Windows. You should have - this file - LACPACK1.EXE (size 1,234,738) - LACPACK2.EXE (size 1,250,338) Please look at the size of your LACPACK1.EXE and LACPACK2.EXE. On occasion, the file transfer will not be complete and you may end up with a truncated file. If this occurs, you will generally get an error like "Run PKZipFix" if you try the steps outlined below. To install the program, you must create setup disks. To do this, you will need two, EMPTY, formatted 1.44M floppy disks. LACPACK1.EXE and LACPACK2.EXE are self-extracting archives. Your mission is to extract them to floppy disks. May I suggest: 1) copy LACPACK1.EXE and LACPACK2.EXE to your hard disk. 2) this step will extract the contents of LACPACK1.EXE to a floppy disk. Put the EMPTY, 1.44M floppy disk in your drive (assumed to be A:). Then execute the following line from the DOS prompt or RUN the line from Windows: LACPACK1.EXE A: Remember which floppy came from LACPACK1.EXE 3) take out the floppy with the files from LACPACK1.EXE. Put in a new EMPTY, 1.44M floppy, then excute the following line: LACPACK2.EXE A: 4) Start Windows, if it is not already runnning. 5) Execute the following file on floppy disk 1: SETUP.EXE Execution can be done by using the RUN command or by double-clicking on A:\SETUP.EXE. That should do it. The software is brought to you by Neal Cariello and the database is maintained by George Douglas. Please send comments or questions to the appropriate person.
