Notes on PowerPC Macintosh versions of PHYLIP (Phylogeny Inference Package) Version 3.5c by Joseph Felsenstein **** The file 'phylip-powermac.bin' is a self extracting archive in macbinary format (use binary ftp). It contains only PowerMac executables, and includes DrawTree/DrawGram and Mac icons. This is from J. Felsenstein's archive. The file 'phylip-powermac.hqx' is a binhex encoded archive. It contains the "fat" binaries, that will run on both PowerMac and 68K machines, but it does not contain DrawTreee/DrawGram or icons. **** - Compiled by Don Gilbert, 20 June 94. - These are not official versions of the programs. I just wanted to make PowerPC Macintosh versions of PHYLIP available to people at Indiana U. and elsewhere. - Programs are packaged as "fat" binaries, including both PowerPC and 68000 binaries to run on either kind of Macintosh. These have the file suffix ".fat". - For simplicity, the Phylip documents are bundled with this set of programs. Users can/should fetch the full PHYLIP package of source code and documents by anonymous ftp from evolution.genetics.washington.edu - Compiler: MetroWerks CodeWarrior version 1.0 (PPC and 68k versions). - Compilation notes: The PPC version required standard CodeWarrior libraries to compile (ANSI C.PPC.Lib, InterfaceLib, MathLib, MWCRuntime.lib). All processor optimizations were enabled. The 68K version used ANSI (2i) C.68k.Lib, MacOS.lib, SANE.lib. All processor optimizations were enabled. Due to a bug in the CodeWarrior 68k compiler, a few of the 68k versions would not compile with it. These were compiled with Think C compiler instead. - No speed timings of these Phylip programs were run, except for one test of dnaml, using the same data set as with fastDNAml, which showed it took about 40x longer to process the same data (optimized PPC versions). See the PowerMac version of fastDNAml also distributed at this time.
