Materials & Methods v4.0 (miniM&M) Read Me file 1/4/90 by JWBrown -------------------------------------------------------------------- Because Materials & Methods (M&M) uses standard Macintosh Human interface features, you should be familiar with the Macintosh interface before using this or any other program on the Macintosh. Because it is a Hypercard stack, M&M uses standard Hypercard features, such as arrow buttons, with which the user should also be familiar. For an introduction to the Macintosh Human interface, run the "Introduction the the Macintosh SE (or whatever) disk that came with the computer. For an introduction the Hypercard, run the "Introduction to Hypercard" stack that comes with Hypercard. If you are familiar with earlier versions of M&M, you will find that the special M&M menubar is missing - it has been replaced by the use of a single pull-down menu within the normal Hypercard menubar and the use of a few icons on procedure cards for the most commonly used functions. Version 4.0 should run on any Macintosh computer that can run Hypercard. Unlike previous versions, version 4.0 of M&M does not use pop- up menus (other than the "M&M" menu in the menubar), so that menus do not pop-up in unexpected locations on large-screen monitors. INTRODUCTION M&M consists of a number of "Procedure cards". To go from one card to another, choose "Choose card" from the Functions menu in the menubar at the top of the screen, or click on the "Choose card" icon to the right of the card. After an interminable delay, you'll be shown a list of all of the procedures stored in M&M. When you've decided on a procedure to examine, just double-click on it's name (or single-click on it, then click on the "Select" button) & you'll be taken to that Procedure card. The procedures can be modifed, printed, or saved as MacWrite files using the pull-down menus from the menubar (There is no need to "save" the files after modification or after adding new procedures, unless you want MacWrite files, since Hypercard automatically updates the stack). Although the Title and References are always visible, the Introduction, Materials, & Methods windows can only be shown one at a time - use the menu items of the same name from the M&M menu, or click the "Windows" icon, to switch from one to the other. Modifying a procedure is easy - the windows (Introduction, Materials, Methods, References, & Title) are standard Text windows & can be edited just like in a word-processing program. When you're finished with that procedure card, select "Choose card" from the Functions menu to go to a different card, or choose "Quit Hypercard" from the File menu. To browse through the stack at your leisure, start with card & click on either the left or right arrow buttons to scroll through the procedure cards.
