The good news is that in the first seven days, 136 people joined the list and that was with only one announcement posted on a few Internet newsgroups. Interest seems to be high. The bad news is that there is some confusion about how to use a "mailing list" to avoid confusion and unnecessary mail in people's inboxes. The basic operation of a mailing list, or listserv, is quite simple. Any message that you send to buildings@energy.com will be forwarded as personal mail to everyone who has subscribed to the list. If and when you respond to a message, keep in mind that if your reply is sent to buildings@energy.com, it will be sent to everyone, not just the person who wrote the original message. Unless you make specific reference to the message to which you are responding (or quote it), people receiving your response may not know what you are referring to. Of course you can direct your response privately to the email address of the person that posted the original message. That would avoid confusion, but will also remove the discussion from the mailing list group. If you have questions about the mailing list, or have experienced problems, please write to me personally, ned.nisson@energy.com, not buildings@energy.com. If you would like your name removed from the mailing list, send a message to buildings-request@energy.com and include the word "unsubscribe" in the message body. Finally, we will be archiving all messages on the mailing list on our server at Energy Design Online. I'll notify everyone when the archive is operational. -Ned Ned Nisson, Editor sent from Energy Design Update Energy Design Online (212)662-0388 [modem] ned.nisson@energy.com (212)662-7428 (voice)
