WIND ENERGY INFORMATION FROM THE
AMERICAN WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION (AWEA)

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) represents wind energy as a
technology that is economically and technically viable today and that
will play a major role in providing clean energy for growing electricity
needs throughout the world.

As part of its mission, AWEA now offers as a public service the
following electronic information files on energy technologies and
issues at no cost:

ENERGY POLICY - OIL ROLLERCOASTER: This is a classic report on the U.S.
energy outlook written in 1987 by Denis Hayes (later chairman of Earth
Day, former director of the Solar Energy Research Institute), Chris
Flavin (now Vice President for Research of Worldwatch Institute) and
Jim MacKenzie (now a Senior Associate at the World Resources Institute).
Among many telling comments, this report predicts an increasing likeli-
hood of wars in the Mideast because of the increasing concentration of
world oil supplies in that region. Published originally by the Fund for
Renewable Energy and the Environment, now Renew America. Length ~70k.
Send e-mail to <oilroller-info@igc.apc.org>.

CLIMATE CHANGE - LASHOF RESPONSE TO SKEPTICS: Daniel Lashof, a scientist
with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), reviews many of the
claims of climate change skeptics and offers a fairly convincing rebuttal.
This is an issue of the highest importance--make sure you are well
informed. Length ~40k. Send e-mail to <gwlashof-info@igc.apc.org>.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - CO-OP AMERICA: Would you like to learn more
about how to put your dollars to work for a better society, from
purchasing environmentally sound products to investing in banks and credit
unions that specialize in economic development loans in low-income areas?
This file contains an introductory letter on Co-op America, a national
nonprofit grass-roots organization that advocates socially conscious
investing and is on the cutting edge of sustainable development issues.
Length ~12k. Send e-mail to <coopamerica-info@igc.apc.org>.

WIND ENERGY - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: This is a file of very basic
information about wind energy technology, including its potential for
energy supply, its cost, and its environmental impacts. Length ~25k.
Send e-mail to <windfaq-info@igc.apc.org>.

WIND ENERGY - INDUSTRY STATUS REPORT 1994: Wind energy is proving itself
as a cost-effective, reliable energy resource at installations across the
United States and around the world. Technological advancements over the
last five years have placed wind energy in a firm position to compete
head-to-head with conventional power generation technologies. This file
provides a detailed look at the U.S. wind energy's current status.
Length ~15k. Send e-mail to <windstatus-info@igc.apc.org>.

WIND ENERGY - PUBLICATIONS CATALOG: The American Wind Energy Association
offers a variety of publications on wind energy, including technical
literature, audio/visual resources, information for the prospective
residential wind turbine owner, and more. Among items of special
interest: _Wind Power for Home & Business_ by Paul Gipe, a complete
reference on small wind turbines; audio cassettes from AWEA's Wall Street
forum on opportunities for finance and investment in wind; and _Wind
Turbine Technology: Fundamental Concepts in Wind Engineering_. Length of
catalog is ~28k. Send e-mail to <windpubs-info@igc.apc.org>.

WIND ENERGY - REMOTE TELECOMMUNICATIONS: Text of "An Overview of Wind
Power for Remote Site Telecommunications Facilities," a paper delivered
by Michael L. S. Bergey of Bergey Windpower Co. at a conference in the
United Kingdom in 1989. Excellent summary of considerations involved in
this application of small wind turbine technology. Length ~23k. Send
e-mail to <windtelecom-info@igc.apc.org>.

WIND ENERGY - WINDPOWER '95 CALL FOR PAPERS: The American Wind Energy
Association has issued a call for papers for its annual national
conference, Windpower '95, which will be held March 27-30 in Washington,
D.C. Topics to be discussed will include: Domestic and International
Project Experience; Technology Advancements; Siting and Resource
Assessment; Business and Finance Issues; Economic Development; Utility and
Regulatory Issues; Environmental and Public Acceptance Issues; National
Policy on Renewables; and more. Length ~15k. Send e-mail to
<windpower95-info@igc.apc.org>.

I also edit _Wind Energy Weekly_, the American Wind Energy Association's
newsletter, and distribute excerpts from it in an "electronic edition."
The electronic edition is usually around 10k in length and covers
industry news, climate change, and other related items. To subscribe,
send a message that includes

o Your name and organizational affiliation (if any)

o Your reason for interest
