the common VHS format to playback the encoded signal, unless you have a facility to decode PAL transmissions then you are onto a loser. Some more expensive video machines have both decoding circuitry which are switch selectable. You may be able to find a company offering a translation service to NTSC for you, but I unfortunately don't know of any.
