Ariela Krasney and Dvora Groman 3)---------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 09:37:48 -1000 From: feller@indirect.com Subject: Yiddish off the Internet Last night at our leyenkrayz I was able to supply all the Yiddish reading material from real Yiddish which I had downloaded from the Web. This included two issues of Tam-Tam, Yiddish script from a letter, Yiddish proverbs posted by Magdalena Sitarz from Cracow, a bunch of poems, the first page of the autobiography of Chaya Rochel Andres, which apparently has about a hundred pages altogether, and one of her poems. Most of this Yiddish downloaded as received. However, the Tam-Tam requires an Adobe decompressor to be properly received. As an additional treat, I played the three minute reading by Sholem Aleykhem who read from his "Ven Ikh Bin Rotshild" and "A Freylikher Yon Tev" which was posted on the Web by a Boston radio station. The fidelity was not great, but just being able to hear Sholem Aleykhem, himself, was very exciting. Freedman/Friedman. Purportedly a dictionary of Yiddish words that have come into English. Ring any bells? Thanks.
