-------------------------------------------- Australian Primary Care Computing Conference Melbourne, Australia June 3-5, 1993 -------------------------------------------- I wish to bring to your attention the 7th Computer Conference of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners which will be held in Melbourne, Australia, on June 3-5, 1993. ("General Practitioners" are our local version of "Family Physicians".) This conference is held every three years and is the largest medical computing conference in this country. The theme for the conference is "Expanding Health Care Horizons - Information Technology Serving General Practice". Participants will include general practitioners and their staff, other primary health care professionals, health information technology professionals and members of relevant government institutions. The objectives of the conference are: To increase the knowledge of all participants about established and emerging techniques in electronic information handling in health care; To stregthen general practice's involvement in computing and related issues; To foster the emergence of new applications of information technology to general practice and to health care; To encourage the development of new ideas about health care delivery when information technology is used effectively. The conference will have an international flavour. Among those from the international primary care computing community who have indicated that they will attend the conference are Dr Glyn Hayes of the UK, Drs Bill Hogg and Donald Luck from Canada and Professors Moon Mullins and Patricia Brennan from the USA. Maybe some the other subscribers to Fam-Med would be interested in attending also. A call for abstracts has been made. Abstracts are invited for oral presentations or practical demonstrations. Computer supported presentations are encouraged in either category. Participants will get plenty of hands on experience through courses on general practice business systems, general practice clinical systems, basic computing skills sessions, medical databases, medical education software, medical audit tools, electronic mail and medical bulletin boards. There will be an extensive trade display of the latest systems available on the Australian market. Those of you who were impressed by our efforts at running the computer program at the recent Vancouver WONCA conference will be blown away by what we can do on our home turf. If you would like to submit an abstract or would like any further information please contact me, Michael Kidd, (Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee) - details below. If you were ever looking for a great excuse to visit Australia and mix some business and pleasure, this is it! Combine your trip to Melbourne with time basking in the sun on the Great Barrier Reef or exploring the outback around Ayers Rock or the Crocodile Dundee territory of Kakadu National Park. I can promise you a warm welcome and lots of pizza (no crabs, sorry). Michael Kidd Phone: 03 579 3188 Fax: 03 570 1382 Email: cam113H@vaxc.cc.monash.edu.au
