--------------------------------------------------------------- COMPUTER ASSISTED FAMILY PRACTICE: ENHANCING CARE AND EDUCATION --------------------------------------------------------------- June 11 - 12, 1993, Huron College Conference Centre The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada Computers have been presenting tantalizing potential for improving practice and education for the last ten years, yet little has been realized. This conference has the objective of moving us one step closer to using computers in family practice to enhance care, education and research. This conference is aimed at both community and academic family physicians, as well as residents, nurses, office staff, vendors and software developers. Participants will have an opportunity to choose sessions especially suited to their needs and interests. Extensive "hands-on" demonstrations will be featured in many sessions. The conference program will consist of a keynote address given by Dr. Steven Ornstein entitled "Computers for Clinical Care, Education and Research in Family Practice: Today and Tomorrow." There will be two panel presentations on the potential of computers in the academic setting and in the family practice setting. Conference attendees will be able to select three workshops to attend. Workshops will be presented on the following topics: Practising in a Computer Environment, Enhancing Patient Education Using Computers, Selecting a Computer System and Vendor, Introductory Topics (Reference Manager, Epi Info), Advanced Topics (Authoring, Electronic Mail, Bulletin Boards), Recommended Data Standards and Classifications for Ontario Family Practice, Ethical/Privacy Issues of Computerized Records, What Data is Essential for Effective Practice? Testing the Models, Computer Enhanced Care: Practising Evidenced-Based Family Medicine, Literature Searching: Grateful Med, Using Computers for Continuing Medical Education, Computer-Enhanced Drug Prescribing, Billing, and Understanding the Electronic Medical Record. ACCREDITATION This continuing medical education activity has been approved for 11 hours recommended Category 1 study credits by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. CONFERENCE FEES Conference fees are $150 for family physicians and corporate representatives to attend the full conference or $100 for one day attendance (GST included). Residents, students, research staff and allied health professionals can register at a fee of $70 for one day attendance or $115 for two day attendance. The registration fee includes coffee and lunch.
