-------------------------------------------------- The Third International Conference on IMAGE MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION IN PATIENT CARE -------------------------------------------------- Requirements, Implementation and Assessment of Digital Imaging in Medicine International Congress Center, Berlin, Germany June 23-24, 1993 GOALS The first two IMAC meetings, 1989 in Washington, and 1991 in Kyoto, Japan, succesfully introduced to the medical and technical community the importance of computer and communication technology in medical imaging. In particular, they emphasized the increasing need to assess the effect of modern technology when applied to the daily routine of medical diagnosis and therapy planning. Discussions centered around clinical needs and efficacy of IMAC as well as various aspects relating to technical issues on image data exchange and storage. Progressing further with research and development, as well as numerous implementations of IMAC systems, the competing views of previous IMAC meetings can now be measured against results obtained from important new IMAC projects realized in Europe, USA and Japan. Europe now sees a very diverse list of IMAC related projects, some of which are supported by the Commission of the European Community in their AIM program. IMAC'93 will provide a first general exposure of these European activities in relation to their equivalent efforts carried out overseas. A number of project leaders of clinica, technical and administrative developments relating to IMAC will be invited to report on their work and views at the IMAC'93 meeting. Clinical issues and impact on health care will be given special attention. No submitted papers are planned for IMAC'93. CAR'93, which closely follows IMAC'93, will extend the discussion to more specific techniques and methodologies of medical imaging and IMAC. Separate proceedings will be make available for CAR'93 and IMAC'93. It is expected that many users and developers of IMAC systems will participate in this joint conference week of intensive information exchange relating to key technologies in Medicine.
