1st BRAZILIAN CONGRESS (and 2nd SCHOOL) ON ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS October 24-27, 1994 Itajuba, Minas Gerais CALL FOR PAPERS The National Council on Neural Networks is pleased to announce the Federal Engineering School at Itajuba (EFEI) as the venue for the 1st Brazilian Congress / 2nd School on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). The objectives of the Congress are twofold: the first is to encourage communication among researchers whose work either draws support from, or complements, the theory and applications of ANN related models; and the second is to explore industrial applications of ANN technology to make systems more convenient. The program committee cordially invites interested authors to submit papers dealing with any aspect of research and applications related to the use of ANN models. Papers will be carefully reviewed and only the accepted papers will appear in the proceedings, to be available at the congress to all registrants. Possible topic areas include (although not limited to) the following: - foundations and mathematical issues - learning and memory - new architectures - neurobiological systems - hybrid systems - hardware implementations - Applications to * robotics and automation * system control * signal processing * pattern recognition * forecasting * optimization In addition to the paper presentations, there will be other activities such as: - short course on the theory of neural computation; - tutorials on ANN applications in energy, business, biomedical, among others; - a panel session entitled "Perspective and Reality of ANN"; - social programs and sight-seeing tours. The short course and the tutorials are offered as an introduction for newcomers to the area. The lectures will be presented by reputed researchers and recognized practitioners. The short course will be on October 24th and the tutorials will be, along with the congress, on October 25-27, 1994. Papers can be written in portuguese or english. An article shall not exceed 6 pages on an 8.5x13 inches paper. Articles must use a double column format, with header, footer and lateral margins equal to 1 inch. A 7 cm header margin is required for the first page. Suggested font is Times Roman, with 5 characters per centimetre. All papers must include an abstract.
