Workstation clusters steadily replace mainframes and even supercomputers. System administrators face a growing number of hardware and software components, and the number of users of workstation clusters increases. The conference "Trends in Workstation Cluster Computing" intends to present state-of-the-art solutions of typical problems inherent in workstation cluster management in the areas of operating systems, tools, services and applications. Intended audience ----------------- o computer scientists who are looking for better solutions to these problems, o system analysts und system managers, who need to get their distributed systems running efficiently, and o users who need to find long-living and efficient solutions to their problems. Central topics -------------- o scheduling and load balancing in distributed systems, o services in distributed systems, o availability and security of services, o parallel computing in distributed systems. Tutorial -------- On March 2, a one-day tutorial on Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) and Distributed Management Environment (DME) will set the stage for the subsequent presentations. Conference program ------------------ Talks on AMOEBA, ATHENA, BIRLIX, CHORUS, NIS+, NQS/EXEC, OSF/DME, PEACE, PLAN 9, SHIFT, TIVOLI and others are planned. On March 3, a series of invited talks and discussions will give an overview of the state of the art in distributed operating systems and distributed workstation management software. On March 4, experts from industry and academia will report about their experience in workstation cluster computing. Conference languages will be German and English. Panel discussion ---------------- On March 4, a panel discussion of workstation vendors on "Future Trends in Workstation Cluster Computing" will conclude the conference. Exhibitions and Demonstrations ------------------------------ During all three days hardware and software vendors will present their solutions concerning workstation cluster computing. Conference Venue ---------------- University of Cologne Lecture Hall Albertus-Magnus-Platz D-50931 Cologne Federal Republic of Germany Registration and Questions -------------------------- For registration or questions concerning the conference please contact: University of Cologne Regional Computing Center Volker Winkelmann Robert-Koch-Str. 10 D-50931 Cologne Federal Republic of Germany Tel: +49 221 478 5526 Fax: +49 221 478 5590 E-Mail: Trends94@rrz.Uni-Koeln.DE Final Registration: February 15, 1994 **** End of announcement for "Trends in Workstation Cluster Computing" **** --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Volker Winkelmann Universitaet zu Koeln University of Cologne Regionales Rechenzentrum Regional Computing Center Wi@rrz.Uni-Koeln.DE Robert-Koch-Str. 10 Robert-Koch-Str. 10 Tel: +49-221-478-5526 D-50931 Koeln-Lindenthal D-50931 Cologne Fax: +49-221-478-5590 Bundesrep.
