Filename suffix codes These three-letter codes are employed in creating filenames for all bibliographies and lists in this collection. See AMRNAMES for prefix- codes and AMRSTYLE for typing rules. Each of these suffixes (and more will be added as needed) is used to designate the specific type of content found in a particular file. Thus, except for cases with a single, mixed bibliography for the topic/subject, several separate files will usually exist. Not only does this make searching easier, it also allows the entire collection to be accessed by bibliographical file-types. ...ART works of art (not music). ...BIB books - specific to the subject/topic, or ones which cannot easily fit under GEN or HST; if only one file exists, this would be a single, complete bibliography. ...BIO a biographical sketch (text). ...CHR a chronology or time-line. ...CMP compositions (a list of works usually alphabetized by title). ...DIS scholarly dissertations and theses. ...DSC a discography (may be ordered by chronology or album-title). ...FLM films. ...GEN general references and collections such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, discographies, anthologies, and broader books which contain some information about the subject/topic, or books which contain articles or essays, such as festschriften. ...HST aesthetics, histories and/or theories of music featuring detailed information about the subject/topic. ...HTS hit songs (a list, usually alphabetized by title). ...INT interviews of the subject. ...NSP newspaper articles: about the topic or by/about the subject. ...OUT an outline about the subject/topic. ...PER periodical (journal) articles. ...REV reviews. ...UPB unpublished papers about the subject/topic. ...VID videos. ...WRI writings by the subject her/himself. 4/94
