Robert Kapilow, composer and PT's "What Makes It So Great?" commentator, has just found out. On September 19, he releases a compact disc featuring his children's chamber opera "Green Eggs and Ham" an adaptation of the classic book by Dr. Seuss. In the weeklong series "How Do You Make a CD? With 'Green Eggs and Ham'!," we'll trace the evolution of this CD from the composer's score to record store shelves. Today's report focuses on the first step of the process: getting rights from the Seuss estate, and hammering out a recording contract. So Kim Heindel's (HYN-dehl) modern gut-strung instrument, built by harpsichord (and lautenwerk) maker Willard Martin, is rare indeed--as is Heindel's talent. Heindel performs in Studio 4A and he and Willard Martin talk with Martin about his recent CD, "Aufs Lautenwerck." ("Aufs Lautenwerck: Music by J.S. Bach on the Lute-Harpsichord"/Dorian Discovery DIS-80126).
