Wednesday, November 15 Hour 1--Temperamental soprano Kathleen Battle may have been banished from the Metropolitan Opera, but she is hardly out of the limelight. With her latest CD, the silvery-voiced singer returns to familiar territory: "Honey and Rue," a song cycle composed by Andre Previn with text by Toni Morrison, and commissioned for Battle by Carnegie Hall for its 100th anniversary season in 1992. PT commentator Tim Smith, music critic for the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, reviews the new compact disc. (Honey and Rue: Kathleen Battle/Orchestra of St. Luke's/ Andre Previn/DG 437 787-2). Hour 2--Performance Today launches a new monthly series, "The Romantic Generation" with Charles Rosen, acclaimed pianist, writer and music scholar of the period from the death of Beethoven (1827) to the death of Chopin (1849). Today, Rosen talks with Martin about Chopin's influence in the Romantic age and demonstrates the composer's neo-Baroque techniques at the keyboard.
