(Erato 0630-14331-2) Hour 2-- Century View: Pianist and commentator Michael Boriskin joins Martin at the PT piano in Studio 4A for another session chronicling a century of change at the keyboard. This time, Michael examines and, and then performs, a work by American composer Carl Ruggles (1876-1971). Thursday, JUNE 5 Hour 2-- Ted Libbey and Martin pay another visit to the Performance Today Basic Record Library. COMING UP ON NPR's WEEKEND PT--MAY 31 AND JUNE 1 Saturday, JUNE 7 Hour 1-- From the Performance Today Basic 10, a classical CD starter set, host Martin Goldsmith recommends a recording of Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." This performance features the Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Boulez. COMING UP ON NPR's PERFORMANCE TODAY JUNE 9--13, 1997 Tuesday, JUNE 10 Hour 1-- "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a suite for guitar and orchestra composed by Steve Hackett, a guitarist who, with Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel, formed the band "Genesis." Martin talks with Hackett about this new recording and his venture into classical composing. His son Arthur, who found these recordings in the basement of his sister's house, talks with Martin about his father's life and work.
