COMING UP ON NPR's PERFORMANCE TODAY DECEMBER 22 -- DECEMBER 28, 1997 Wednesday, DECEMBER 24 Hour 2-- "A Cathedral Christmas" is the title of a concert featuring mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves which will be nationally televised tonight on PBS. Martin talks with Graves about this concert from the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, Christmas music in general, and her new CD, "Angels Watching Over Me." (NPR Classics CD 0006) Friday, DECEMBER 26 Hour 2-- The Basic 10: In April of 1997, host Martin Goldsmith introduced PT listeners to the "Basic 10," a group of ten recordings that he considers a perfect introduction to classical music. We close out 1997 and welcome 1998 by revisiting this very popular series. Martin starts the list with a discussion of the six Brandenburg Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach, and selects a recording featuring Sir Neville Marriner conducting the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
