Newsgroup Archives
The "sci.physics.fusion" newsgroup continued the "alt.fusion" newsgroup,
which was formed in the spring of 1989 after Pons & Fleischmann's
astounding announcement of electrolytically induced "cold fusion".
Thanks primarily to the efforts of Scott Hazen Mueller, virtually all
the traffic on this group has been captured and archived for ftp access
at vm1.nodak.edu in the directory FUSION. The process is handled by a
LISTSERV at that site. Filenames in this directory are of the form
FUSION-YY.NNNNN
where YY is the year (e.g. 92) and NNNNN is
a sequentially-assigned number. Each file consists of a "digest" consisting of
(typically) a dozen or so postings. Be warned that a listing of the FUSION
directory is quite long, and it may not be simple to locate a particular posting.
The same information (archives of the newsgroup traffic) is maintained for wais
access at sunsite.unc.edu. Keywords may be used to search the entire archive.
At present the search engine does not support boolean operators, so precision
searching may be difficult. Hints:
- Under swais, you may wish to use the "O" (options) command and select
widetitles on and increase the number of allowed results
(maxitem) beyond the default of 40.
- "Cud" keywords have been appended to each posting, which may be useful for
refining the search:
- cudyr92, cudmo11, cuddy2 -- year, month, and day of posting
- cudencrb7q, cudfnCameron, cudlnBass -- e-mail name, first name,
last name of poster
