We are looking for the assistance of at least two or three faculty members (and connected students) in the area of political science or related fields, for a rather interesting project. As many of you know, for the past several months the National Public Telecomputing Network (NPTN) has been running a project called Campaign '92. We have been disseminating full-text of all major candidate position papers, press releases, fact sheets, etc. via postings to Usenet newsgroups; an anonymous ftp site; via all NPTN community computer systems; and, in conjunction with the American Cybercasting Corporation, as special newsgroups to over 60 individual college campuses. With election day drawing near, we need to get ready for Phase II of this project. After the election we will be purging our systems of the documents produced by the LOSERS. The WINNER'S papers, however, will stay online. What we would like to do is to enlist several groups of political science-type students, under the direction of a faculty member, to independently go through the papers of the winner to document every campaign promise you find there. These promises will then be placed in a summary document, distributed electronically across the net, and made available in paper form to all major media outlets. We will provide you with the official set of documents to use in ASCII form either on a disk or you can ftp them from nptn.org. We will also send further information on definitions and categories. If you are a faculty member who would be interested in participating in this project, please send e.mail to: Tom Grundner at: tmg@nptn.org. Please be sure to include your name and institutional affiliation. Thank you.
