FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONDAY, October 19, 1992 Statement of SEN. AL GORE On the final debate among the Presidential Candidates While political panic once again pushed George Bush to distortion and personal attack, Bill Clinton once again demonstrated clearly why America needs Bill Clinton's leadership, courage, and his plan to get our economy moving, create jobs, and put people first. And, tonight demonstrated once more that George Bush won't let the facts get in the way of a cheap shot. Bill Clinton has balanced 12 budgets in a row. George Bush has never even introduced a balanced budget. And Bill Clinton's Arkansas leads the nation in job growth and has the second lowest tax rate in the country. The facts are clear. George Bush and Dan Quayle want tax breaks for the rich and tough breaks for everyone else. Bill Clinton and I want tax cuts for middle income families and we want the rich to pay their fair share after a dozen years of Bush-Quayle favors. Tonight's debate left George Bush many questions to answer, principal among them, questions surrounding the Bush-Quayle policy toward Iraq and a pattern of policy mistakes that led to a war that cost American lives and left American taxpayers with the tab for nearly $2 billion in bad loans made to Saddam Hussein. It's time for change, for new leadership, new ideas, and new energy to revive our economy and put Americans back to work. Bill Clinton demonstrated tonight that he will provide that change, that leadership, and the new approach to get America moving and get Americans back to work. #########
