THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary __________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release December 30, 1994 PRESIDENT NAMES WILSON TO ADVISORY BOARD OF SAINT LAWRENCE SEAWAY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION The President today announced his intention to nominate William L. (Bill) Wilson of Minnesota as a Member of the Advisory Board of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. Mr. Wilson is a Research Fellow at the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs at the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Center in Minneapolis. From 1980 to 1993 he served as Council member (and as President from 1989 to 1993) of the Saint Paul City Council, where he worked with such entities as the Minneapolis Economic Development Agency, the Saint Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development, and the Saint Paul Port Authority. In addition, Mr. Wilson has previously served as Commissioner of the Saint Paul Port Authority and serves currently as a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota World Trade Corporation. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Minneapolis Urban League Leadership Award and the Minnesota Minority Lawyers Association Award for Leadership in Government Service. Mr. Wilson was born on July 17, 1940 in Evansville, Illinois. He pursued undergraduate studies at Knoxville College in Tennessee and obtained a joint Bachelor and Masters Degree (M.E.D.) from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1973. The Advisory Board acts as the board of directors for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, a government corporation under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Board directs the operations of the corporation and provides insight on the effects of Seaway operations.
