TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION President Clinton today announced his intention to nominate the following individuals to the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation: Honorable Steven L. Zinter of South Dakota is a Circuit Court Judge in the Sixth Judicial District in South Dakota and sits by designation on the state's Supreme Court. Previously, Judge Zinter practiced law in Pierre, South Dakota for ten years, and was twice elected Hughes County State's Attorney, a position he held from 1980 to 1987. Honorable Joseph E. Stevens, Jr. of Missouri is the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Missouri. He is a former President of the Missouri Bar Association, and was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Civil rules by the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Truman Medical Center. Chief Judge Stevens received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan. E. Gordon Gee of Utah is currently President of Ohio State University, a position he assumed in 1990. Previously, Dr. Gee was President of the University of Colorado from 1985 to 1990 and President of West Virginia University from 1981 to 1985. From 1979 to 1981, he was Dean and Professor of the West Virginia University College of Law, and a faculty member at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University from 1975 to 1979. He was a Judicial Fellow and Senior Staff Assistant to the U.S. Supreme Court from 1974 to 1975, and an Assistant Dean for Administration at the University of Utah College of Law from 1973 to 1974. Dr. Gee received a B.A. from the University of Utah in 1968, and a J.D. and a doctorate in education from Columbia University in 1971 and 1972, respectively. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation was established on January 4, 1975, for the purpose of awarding scholarships to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding potential for and who plan to pursue a career in public service. The Foundation awards 75 to 85 scholarships annually, and recipients of the award, known as "Truman Scholars" are eligible to receive $30,000 in scholarship support. -30-30-30-
