Yggdrasil Computing, Incorporated is now shipping revision B
of the beta release of LGX, a Linux/GNU/X-based operating system on
CDROM. You can get the release for free if you are a substantial
contributor to the free software on the CDROM (e.g., author, Linux FTP
site maintainer, Linux BBS operator, etc.) If you already have the
first revision, you can get a free update, which simply constists of a
new boot floppy. If you request the update, please indicate whether
you prefer a 5.25" or a 3.5" floppy disk.

If you don't qualify for a free copy, the beta release is $60,
or you can buy the beta release and the first production release together
for $99. There is also a modest shipping and handling charge and possibly
tax, depending on where you live.

It is safe to use the old order forms, even though their
expiration date is passed. Their expiration date was chosen in
anticipation of the date of the first production release, but that
event has been postponed in the hopes of being able to use a kernel
with a version number of 1.0 or higher and also because there are
a couple of projects in the works which may be worth waiting for.

Of course, there are always interesting free software packages
being released. For this reason, subsequent production releases of LGX
will come out quarterly, with an inexpensive update subscription being
available to owners of previous LGX production releases. In the meantime,
now seems like a good time to draw the line for a new beta release.
The principal improvements that were incorporated into revision B are
as follows:

		(1) support for Mitsumi CDROM drives,

		(2) support for the Adaptec 1542C SCSI controller,

		(3) CDROM support for the Seagate ST-01/02
and Future Domain 8xx and other TMC-950 based
		    SCSI controllers (previously these controllers
worked with hard disks, but often failed to
		    recognize CDROM's),

		(4) as yet untested support for the Ultrastor 24F SCSI
		    controller,

		(5) as yet untested support for SCSI CDROM drives that
		    don't like a 2048-byte block size,

		(6) 0.99.7A kernel with the same collection of
extensions that was in revision A,

		(7) 1.0b sound drivers,

		(8) "delta" System V IPC emulation,

		(9) the bug that occasionally caused a kernel memory
fault when reading the X socket from the CDROM
		    has been fixed.

The CDROM is unchanged, and there are only trivial changes to the
manual. All of the functional improvements are transmitted by the boot
floppies, and are picked up by the installation process automatically.

There is now also a boot floppy that works with the Seagate
ST-02 floppy controller. (LILO has trouble with these drives.) This
floppy is also available upon request, and by anonymous FTP.

For more information, call (510) 526-7531, send computer
mail to yci@netcom.com, or check out the anonymous FTP area in
netcom.com:~ftp/pub/yggdrasil. The anonymous FTP area holds the
updated order form, the updated reseller list, the updated manual,
the new boot floppies, and a version of the six page beta release
announcement editted to reflect the new features of revision B.
