The new release of the second extended file system is now available
for anonymous ftp on ftp.ibp.fr in the directory /pub/linux/BETA/ext2fs. It
should appear soon on tsx-11.mit.edu in the same directory.

Since the ext 2 fs seems now pretty stable, this is a public release.
From this release, ext 2 fs is considered being in a beta stage.

	The files are :
	- ext2fs-0.3.tar.z : source code of the ext 2 fs kernel code to
extract under /usr/src, note that you need the source code of
the 0.99pl8 linux kernel or later,
	- ext2fs.p0.3.z : patch to upgrade the ext 2 fs kernel code from 0.2e
(included in linux 0.99 pl8 + Linus' ALPHA diffs) to 0.3,
	- e2fsprogs-0.3.tar.z : source code of the ext 2 fs programs,
	- e2fsprogs.p0.3.z : patch to upgrade the ext 2 fs programs from 0.2e
	  to 0.3.

Please note that the patches are unified diffs and you need the GNU
version of patch to apply them.

The changes made in this new release are :
1/ in the kernel code :
	- a bug has been fixed in the allocation routines. This bug could
cause a panic with the message 'ext2: get_group_desc: Invalid group'.
Thanks to Marc Fournier <marcf@nexus.yorku.ca> for his report.
	- the pre 0.2b fs conversion is not compiled by default any more. You
have to define EXT2FS_PRE_02B_COMPAT in <linux/ext2_fs.h> to
	  enable it.
	- race conditions in the directory management routines have been fixed
by Stephen Tweedie and me. These fixes will make duplicated file
	  names *much* less probable.
	- rename() now returns POSIX conformant error codes. Thanks to
Ian Jackson <ijackson@nyx.cs.du.edu> for noticing the bad error
	  codes.
	- I have made some cosmetic changes.

2/ in the ext 2 fs programs :
	- e2fsck now offers to correct file names containing null characters.
Thanks to H.J. Lu for his help.
	- dirdump now accepts the -a and/or -x option which indicates that file
names must be displayed in ascii and/or hexadecimal form. Thanks to
	  H.J. Lu for suggesting this.
	- there is a new program mklost+found which can be used to re-create a
lost+found directory if it has been removed.
