[ Moderator's note: Linux should now be a supported platform for Pine,
and no hacking should be necessary to get it to compiler (modulo
differences in your C library, headers and kernel, and those of the
  supported version. --liw ]

The old port of pine3.85 didn't work correctly for me (linux-0.99pl14
+ libc4.4.4), so I got the latest source (3.89). With a little minor
hacking it built fine, and seems to work OK.

This version supports shadow passwords.

The binary includes pine and imapd.

pine389bin.tgz is available at
ftp.ctd.comsat.com:/pub
sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/system/Mail??

diffs are pine389diff.gz

original unpatched source is available from ftp.cac.washington.edu

Oh, pine is a curses based mail package that supports the imap
protocol for remote mail access (like pop, only better).
