I have uploaded the binary for the latest version (alpha 0.70) of octave
at sunsite.unc.edu in directory /pub/Linux/Incoming.
The file is octave-0.70.tgz. It is a gzipped tar file and you'll need
gnu-zip to uncompress it. If you don't find it in Incoming/, try the
directory apps/math/ ; it may have been moved there by the administrator.

Briefly, octave is a freely distributable, high level language for
numerical computations, written by J.W. Eaton (jwe@edu.utexas.che).
It is very much compatible with matlab. The current version has many
bug fixes and improvements over the previous version I uploaded (0.66).
Try it out.
