The latest release of my SLIP management suite is now available on
ftp.west.oic.com and should be available on sunsite.unc.edu soon
(it is currently in Incoming).

This software is completely different from dslip 1.01. It is much more
compact and uses a centralized server to manage the connections. It has
many more features and uses a tenth of the memory and many fewer processes.

The management software covers automatic dialing out, redialing on failure,
shifting between SLIP connections on the same serial port, and dialins.
The dialout portion of the software works very well. The dialin portion
is considered to still be under test.

The software has been compiled under 1.1.36 but should work with 1.0 or
better. However, there were many bugs in the kernel SLIP interface code
in earlier kernels and any serious slip user should upgrade to the most
recent *STABLE* kernel. Bug reports are welcome but I am very busy and
can really only deal with reports that include fixes to incorporate into
the master distribution. As of 1.1.39 the most stable kernel is currently
1.1.36, IMHO.

Personally, I have found the software to be invaluable to my piece of
mind.
