FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

METACARD IMPORTS HYPERCARD STACKS

Boulder, February 14, 1994 - MetaCard Corporation today announced the
release of an upgrade to their award-winning hypermedia and Rapid
Application Development environment. A powerful tool in both domains,
MetaCard is an easy-to-use alternative to conventional GUI development
environments, hypertext document creation applications and
presentation packages.

MetaCard 1.3 can also import and run stacks developed in Apple/Claris
HyperCard versions 1.2.5 and 2.1. MetaCard is the only Unix product
with this capability. The conversion is done directly from the binary
stacks: no Macintosh-based conversion tools are required (as they are
for the HyperCard-compatible products running under Microsoft
Windows). Macintosh resources such as icons, cursors and sounds are
also converted. HyperCard XCMDs are supported through a HyperCard
compatible API, but must be recompiled for each target platform.

Other new features include support for object-oriented (vector)
graphics, new functions for spawning and managing external processes,
playback of FLI/FLC format animation and support for import and
display of EPS (PostScript) graphics. MetaCard 1.3 also features an
improved user interface that supports multiple object selection with
alignment and grouping.

A full-featured UIMS, MetaCard is being used by customers world wide
to create products ranging from GUI front ends for Unix commands to
commercial applications. MetaCard is also being used to develop
Computer-Based Training systems, on-line documentation, interactive
product brochures and other dynamic presentations. Since MetaCard
stacks can be used on any supported platform without preprocessing or
recompiling and the engines (the platform specific component of
MetaCard) can be distributed free of charge, MetaCard is an excellent
tool for electronic document distribution.

MetaCard 1.3 is available on 13 Unix/X11 platforms: SPARC (SunOS and
Solaris 2.X), Sun 3, DECstation and DEC Alpha, HP 9000/300 and 700,
SCO Open Desktop, 88open, Silicon Graphics IRIS, UnixWare, Linux and
IBM RS/6000. In addition, a DESQview/X engine is available for MS-DOS
users. Single user copies of MetaCard sell for $495. Site licenses are
available from $1,800 for 5 users up to $15,000 for 250
users. Educational users receive a 50% discount from these
prices. Free upgrades will be provided to all current MetaCard
customers.

Free save-disabled distributions of the product are available on the
Internet via anonymous FTP from ftp.metacard.com:/MetaCard and
ftp.uu.net:/vendor/MetaCard, via email from support@metacard.com and
on 3.5" tar format floppy disks. Detailed product information is
available from info@metacard.com.
