Preview of the GREAT beta release
=================================

The FSAG (Free Software Association of Germany) proudly announces:

GREAT (the Graphical Environment and Desktop) will be released as BETA
starting February 1st, 1994. During beta state we will only offer GREAT
binaries to the public.

GREAT supports transparent network access to remote ressources w/o
using NFS-mounted partitions. All you have to do is to install the
GREATCOMM server netfd which is released in binary form as well.

GREAT requires X11 (XFree 2.0) and kernel patchlevel >= 13, libxpm,
and Motif 1.2 (or you have to use the statical linked binaries).

Depending on your installation we will offer GREAT as

a) GREAT_bmf.tgz GREAT for systems w/o Motif Runtime license
                      (statically linked to libXm)
b) GREAT.bin.tgz GREAT for systems with Motif Runtime license

GREAT consists of the following packages:

CMDFRAME - The GREAT 'DeskTop' :

An icon bar on the left and/or right, top of the screen consists of (possibly
colored) icons used for calling programs and 'drag and drop' actions.
You can bind sound effects or (icon) animation sequenzes to these
icons.

GFM -

The Great Filemanager enables you to perform file maniupulation tasks like
copying/deleting (w/ recovery) of single or previously marked files, even
recursivly. You can 'drag and drop' icons onto the CMDFRAME and perform
specified multiple tasks (view pix, listen to sounds, etc.).

GFLEX -

is a fully configurable CMDFRAME-Button to perform varios 'drag and drop'
tasks based on the file's extension and/or magic number.
