For those of you without direct Internet access or the ability to
print 180+ pages of PostScript, my book ``Linux Installation and Getting
Started'' is now available via mail order from SSC, Inc., distributors
of the UNIX pcoket references that you may be familiar with.

This book is a complete installation and new-user guide for the Linux
system, for UNIX newcomers and gurus alike. In addition to information
on how to obtain and install Linux, it contains a complete beginning
UNIX tutorial, a chapter on system administration, and advanced topics
such as installation of XFree86.

Belinda Frazier at SSC writes,

``SSC has printed and comb bound the Linux Installation and
Getting Started manual, Version 2 to make it available for those who
do not have the capability to print it themself and to support our
customers who buy Linux (Yggdrasil) from us. It is printed double-sided
  with a cover.

``Ordering: The manual is $15 plus shipping ($3 in the U.S.). We can
accept credit card orders (Visa, MasterCard or AmEx). Orders can
be phoned in (206-FOR-UNIX/206-527-3385), FAXed (206-527-2806) or
mailed to SSC, P.O. Box 55549, Seattle, WA 98155.

``Miscellaneous: SSC also publishes a series of reference cards on Unix and
Unix-related programs such as Emacs, VI, Korn Shell, C language, etc.
We also sell the Yggdrasil Linux distribution and Free Software
Foundation books. Call or e-mail sales@ssc.com for a free catalog.''

Version 2.0 of the book was announced just a few days ago. In addition,
we are currently working on a plain ASCII version of the book for those
of you you can't print PostScript or .dvi.

The book is also available free via anonymous FTP from sunsite.unc.edu
in /pub/Linux/docs/LDP/install-guide. See the README file there for
details.

Several other publishers are planning to provide the I&GS via mail order,
as well as other LDP books. However, this is the first announcement
I have received of such a distribution. Watch comp.os.linux.announce
for further developments.

Thanks for Belinda and to the folks at SSC for providing this service.
