                 ICAO Map -
                 An Aviation Utility

                 (c) 1993 Martin Pauly

ICAO Map is an interactive program running under X11/Motif. Its
input is a so called "world file", which is an ASCII file
containing descriptions of objects such as airports, roads,
towns, radio beacons and the like. ICAO Map will use either
Lambert or Mercator projection to generate a map from this
world file, either on your screen or as PostScript output.

ICAO Map allows you to interactively work with the map on the
screen, i.e. scroll it, use a rubber line to measure distances
and tracks etc. Additional features are available for both
motorized flights and soaring.

Version 0.7 is now available on our ftp server in Aachen:

ftp.informatik.rwth-aachen.de

- /pub/packages/icao/icao-0.70.src.tgz (sources)
- /pub/packages/icao/icao-0.70.linux.bin.tgz (Linux bins)

ICAO Map - Changes in version 0.70:
===================================

- 3-digit longitude data is now read correctly by the scanner

- new code for printing, supporting color, different paper sizes
  modified by Thomas Petrick

- smaller scales (1:3,500,000 and 1:5,000,000) are supported

- strings may be written between double quotes ("") to allow
special characters and names that begin with a digit.

- islands and political borders can be displayed and are
introduced for the German world file

Version 0.7 does not have too many improvements over 0.6b.
Yet, as many people start to collect data in world files
and the next version (1.0) is not likely to be released
before the end of the year, I wanted to make the new
object types available to those who have to deal with
coastlines/borders.

Please not that many of the changes announced in the
manual for the next release have not been dealt with.
The design of ICAO Map 1.0 is currently beginning,
resulting in a complete rewrite that should make it
easier to add new functions to the application.
Also, there is no update of the manual so far because
there are no significant changes noticable for the
user.
