I am introducing a new program, vlock, which locks Linux virtual
consoles. It's kind of like xlock, except that it works for virtual
consoles, not X screens. It doesn't work for serial logins, network
logins, xterms, or any other form of login besides virtual consoles.

Do you ever want to lock a terminal session when you walk away from a
Linux box, but don't want to log out?

With vlock, you can either lock a single virtual console, allowing
other people to log into other consoles, or you can lock all the
consoles at once so that no one can even change virtual consoles.

I wrote this as an example program for Linux Journal -- thank them for
giving me the initiative to write this program, if you like the
program. I suggest subscribing if you haven't... (No, I'm not biased
-- I just write for them.., ;-)

WARNING: vlock can *really* lock the virtual terminal. If you don't
know the password of the user whose screen you lock, and don't know
the root password, you won't be able to unlock the screen. Really...
